The Attributes of a Hero You ever dream of being a hero, that everyone knows your name or will hear great stories of you. Heroes are not always recognized , but someday somewhere someone will know your name. Well there was one particular hero that saved a kingdom that needed his help and that heroes name was Beowulf. Even tho Beowulf isn't perfect, he has three very good attributes about him which are bravery, strength/strong, and being selfless. The first good attribute is bravery.You have to be brave when you are a hero because there will be many terrifying obstacles in your way that you must overcome. Selfless is being concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own; unselfish. If you aren’t selfless than you can’t be a hero because you have to think about others before you think about yourself.Being selfless in a battle will help you out because you are fighting for everyone else not just yourself so it will give you the strength to push through. In the story, Beowulf shows that when Hrothgar needed a hero he showed up and helped him out with Grendel. Wiglaf was selfless because when Beowulf needed help he was the only one there for him. “ Heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror/ And quickly commanded a boat fitted out,/ Proclaiming that hed go to that famous king,/ would sail across the sea to Hrothgar,/ Now when help was needed…” (Beowulf 112-116).
As one can see, Beowulf was a great hero with many exceptional characteristics. Beowulf was brave enough to fight Grendel, he had enough strength to pick up a giant sword to smite Grendel’s mother, and he was selfless when Hrothgar needed assistance.
