Beowulf was a great warrior who fought in many battles. People always expected Beowulf to be a great warrior from his youth stage. Greatness was always expected of him and as he grew up it is believed he began to realize his great potential as well. He fought in some of the greatest battles during his time and is forever remembered for these great battles. During his reign he fought three major battles, one against Grendel, another against his mother, and a third against a 50 plus foot long dragon. He fought for the well being of the people he ruled as king and his outstanding acts of courage propelled him into the history of the Geats.
Beowulf arrived in Heorot, King Hrothgar 's prized Mead hall, and told the king of his great achievements in battle to convince him to send Beowulf to defeat Grendel. For 12 years Grendel terrorize the geats. Grendel was too strong for an ordinary man to best him in battle but Beowulf possessed the strength of 30 men in each hand.
