In the book “The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin” we see that Benjamin Franklin is narrating events of his life and all his occurrences throughout the establishment of the new colonies. Benjamin Franklin intended on becoming a minister but his interest on reading and writing made him change of this idea. He was an apprentice of his brother and after they had a fight he decided to move to Philadelphia. He then worked for a printer at England and meet important political figures such as royal Governor. He then returned to America and crated a debate club called the Junto. After two years he took over The Pennsylvania Gazette which he turned it into a successful publication. He then married Deborah Read which she conceived two of his children. …show more content…

We don’t see him talk about his mother nor his sister the main family members he addresses is his father and his male siblings. His father states what each sons job will be and what role they will have throughout their whole life. in other words Benjamin and his brothers have no say on what they want to do or where they want to work at they do not have the choice of basing their job on their personal interest instead they have to fully live by his husbands rules and please there father. Not only do they each have a different role but they all have different expectations from his father to obtain regarding their ages. In the other hand his mother and sister have no assignations other than care for the men of the house due to being born a female. In the book they don’t get mention very often but during this time period it’s clear that the women’s role is to care for men while the man is providing an income and security for them. For example boys would learn what it’s meant to be a mean which was mainly transmitted from their fathers also they would have instructions in prover behavior, and once they were apprenticed they were expected to lean and execute duties men would do. Being a man meant to have social, power, be educated, contribute to the community, participate in government, own property, and maintain a family. Men where thought basic literacy by their mothers and once basic literacy was obtained then their fathers would teach them writing and mathematics. In the hand girls had to learn their gender roles, had a basic understanding between good and bad, and by the age of thirteen they were expected to do tasks and adult women had. They had to take care of young children, buy and prepare food, instruct indentured servants or slaves, and perform household chores. Also since they were the primary spiritual instructors they had to encourage and develop faith in children. The way women passed knowledge to their children was by teaching them how to read (if women had the ability to do so) and they were in charge of the educations their daughters had in order to becoming a wife and a mother as they grow.
