There is a lot of role models in this world. Abraham Lincoln. Jennifer Lawrence. Your parents. Maybe even your siblings. However, it takes a lot to be a good role model. Being a role model is being caring no matter what, it’s being brave, It means you are hopeful, always. Being a role model is being Marcus. In the story, “Everything will be OK”, the author James Howe develops a role model right before our eyes. His character Marcus gets flushed down a drain, yet he still managed to be so strong that he can be called a role model. He was braver than a soldier. He was caring, like a nurse. He is brave in a way that many people aren’t. He isn’t brave because he fought a lava monster. He didn’t risk his life for a princess’s. He is a deeper kind of brave. To begin, he is lonely. Being lonely is one of the hardest things in the world. However, for Marcus, his lonely is different, yet so common. He could walk in the most crowded hallway in the world, yet still feel lonely. His brothers were never really there for him. His friends are fake, yet we never hear him complaining about it. Adding on, he stands up for himself. At the end of the story, he says “I will never work for Dr. Milk. I will not go hunting with my father. I will decide for myself what kind of boy I am, what kind of man I will become.” Standing up for myself like that is something I would never be able to do, yet Marcus can, proving he is a good role …show more content…

He is living this terrible time yet he had hope through it all. That’s something to look up to. To start off, he brought the sick cat in. He knew the cat was sick, but he still carried that poor thing into his house, because he had hope that the cat would get better. Secondly, He comforted the cat. He knew this cat was in misery, and it was about to get 10x worse, so he held the cat, stroking its fur, whispering comforting words to it. “Everything will be ok Smoky,” He tells the cat. Finally, he had hope even when he knew there wasn’t. For example, he literally said “...I do know that no matter what I say he is going to do what he wants to do.” He knew his brother was going to kill the poor cat, yet he still yelled at his brother. He tried to persuade him to not kill Smoky. He even went to watch the cat die because he needed to see it to believe it. The only thing that would make him lose hope is his true love actually dying.
