I recently received the email from Dr. Kuhl-D’Meener regarding how the company will grow beyond the designation that the company is currently at. A few social issues that really interest the youth these days would be regarding with mental and behavioral health. Although mental health and behavioral health are used interchangeably, mental health is considered to be a subset of behavioral health. For this purpose I will treat them as two separate entities. Partly why so much of the youth are concerned with mental and behavioral health because of the increasing awareness and importance of mental and behavioral health. One of the organizations advocating for behavioral health is The National Council for Behavioral Health. According to the National Council for Behavioral Health they are a council that (2015) “together with 2,500 member organizations, it serves more than eight million adults and children living with mental illnesses and addiction disorders. The organization is committed to ensuring all Americans have access to comprehensive, high-quality care that affords every opportunity for recovery and full participation in community life.” The organization ensure that people who experience mental health and substance use problems can have access to complete healthcare services. They also offer thorough education, practice improvement with consulting and resources to make sure that behavioral health services are efficient and effective for everyone. Another organization that is much more concentrated on a local level regarding national or global issues is the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority. According to the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (2016) one in five Americans live with a mental illness or substance abuse disorder, which the organization provides services to individuals in the Richmond area. According to the organization, (2016) although they do receive funding from the Richmond, Virginia, and the federal government sources, their funding has been decreased by four million dollars recently. Many of their consumers do not have some form of payment for their services, such as Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance, which lead to a “ten percent increase in non-benefited consumers receiving services (without a payment source) during the past two years.” There are many that go without help (according to them many people are on waiting list that need help), even though they are continuously helping other individuals. “Richmond remains the most vulnerable behavioral health community in Virginia with regionally the highest rates of poverty, academic underachievement, violent crime, health disparity and homelessness. The number of people who need help is staggering.” Thirty-five percent of the individuals that utilize the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority services are children that are under the age of eighteen, according to
