Strengths: Athlete’s Warehouse Case Study This paper will take a look at the Athlete’s Corner (A) case study (Howse, 1992). The case study topic of Athlete’s Warehouse originated with two brothers, Ed and Colin Power, both from Grand Falls, Newfoundland. The brothers had opened a store called Athlete’s Warehouse that sold sports shoes and clothing. This store was open for 2 years but eventually closed down due to several factors. It closed in part because the brothers didn’t have time to put into the store and also poor location. Colin also ran a fitness facility that cut into his time and he was also a Physical Education teacher while Ed a papermaker at a local mill. usBoth men were very athletic and experts in the field of physical education. Considering that they brothers had so much athletic expertise, Colin even holding a P.h.D in Physical Education, they still held out hope to open a new Athlete’s Warehouse in Grand Falls where the fitness facility was located. There are established businesses in the area that offer similar products, however, the brother’s background and superior products could take make up for that. They would have to use those key factors to their fullest advantage. In this case, I would choose the best location possible, with the most retailers around them. For this reason, the Lincoln Road Mini-Mall would be off of my list. The other two locations both offer benefits and drawbacks and it would be a tough call as to which one to choose. The Exploits Valley Mall location is more expensive and smaller storefront availability, on the other hand, the downtown area also houses the larger Sports Experts franchise which would be a considerable competitor. I would be greatly concerned, based on the competition and location choices alone. Then adding in the risk to Ed’s retirement, it seems even more
