Atem and Kamilah

Kamilah, the name meant perfection. The girl who held the name, Kamilah, felt she was everything but. The only activities she felt that she excelled at, aside from dancing, were considered men’s work and she couldn’t help but feel like a disappointment to her family who had been planning to marry her off to someone of high rank. Kamilah felt in her heart that the odds of something like that happening were slim would be low if they were to let it happen by itself. It would have had to have been arranged and if something had been arranged, well, she wasn’t aware of it. At least, not until they dragged her along to see the Pharaoh and his son. “Kamilah, stop being so shy. Say hello to the Pharaoh and Prince Atem.”Her mother urged her forward. The girl gave a small bow to show her respects before speaking. “H-hello.”She wasn’t nervous because she was in the presence of a Pharaoh and prince; no, she was nervous because she was afraid of letting her family down. What if the Pharaoh decided that she wasn’t good enough to be betrothed to his only son? She could only imagine the looks on their faces and what would happen if she were to fail that day. Kamilah looked towards the boy known as Atem, who was sticking close to his father, and gave him a timid smile. Atem gave the girl a wide eyed stare before he smiled and waved. He looked up at his father before speaking up. His father had given him the choice whether or not to accept the proposal. A choice he figured was not granted to the girl before him. “Father, I like this one. Can we be friends?”The young prince cast a stare towards the young girl with a sparkle in his eye. “It would seem that my son would like to befriend your daughter first.”Pharaoh Aknamkanon placed a hand on h... ... middle of paper ... ... A couple years later, Kamilah had developed a small crush on Atem unbeknownst to him. She’d have liked to keep it that way. If only she hadn’t told Mana, she wouldn’t have to be explaining herself to Atem. “A crush doesn’t mean I love you. It just means I like you…”She paused.”A little bit.”Kamilah crossed her arms and looked away embarrassed before she ran off. Atem laughed to himself before turning away. There was never a dull moment with that girl. He found her even moreso amusing when she became flustered. It was one of the few times she actually acted feminine, not that he minded the ninety-nine percent that didn’t. He actually preferred her the way she was which was all he could ever ask for. Those small moments where she showed vulnerability, were moments he treasured for himself. Those were the moments he hoped to Ra, that she wouldn’t show anyone else.
