Women all over the world are portrayed as fragile creatures are often expected to just sit back and keep quiet. In greek mythology women are often seen to be extremely powerful, especially Atalanta, by defeating all stereotypes towards women. She proves that you don’t need a man to be happy, by swearing to never marry. She takes a stand for all women that don’t take interest in “normal girl activities”, she does this by prooving multiple times that she is capable of outrunning any man in the race for her love, despite losing because of the golden apples. Atalanta is the greatest female hero, mostly for her role in the Calydonian Hunt which is a big hunt for a vicious wild boar Artemis, who was sent to terrorize the kingdom of a king who forgot to pay her tribute. A large group of heroes hunts the terrorizing boar, but Atalanta is who finally causes its death, by being the first to wound it. She was also known to out race and hunt anyone, like her patron goddess Achilles. In the story about the boar hunt,the times were sexist then, and many of the noblemen were not interested in fighting alongside a woman even one with a reputation like Atalanta's. Fortunately for Atalanta, Meleager was in love with her, and convinced the other men to follow her. She was able to prove to the men that she was just as equal by being the one to cause the boars death. Atalanta is able to turn the degrading saying “you hit like a girl” into a compliment. Greek mythology is empowering to read, by seeing all of the powerful goddesses and what they bring to the table is amazing. Despite these myths occurring thousands of years ago it is still refreshing to see women taking action and showing what they are capable
