Gun violence in America is evidently an issue. Moreover, it should be treated as a public health crisis. Over 36,252 deaths have been reported from the cause of firearms in the year 2015 (Bauchner et al. 2017). This surprisingly exceeds the number of deaths from car related incidents from the year 2015. Furthermore, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention over 1.5 million Americans have died in gun related incidents since 1968. In comparison to the 1.2 million service members who have been killed in every combined war in U.S history (Bailey 2017). Nevertheless, individuals still think that guns make homes safer. On the contrary, over 60 percent of gun related deaths were suicides in the year 2015 (Bauchner et al. 2017). Where the use of guns is 90% more effective for a suicidal attempt. 1997). These studies, however, could not be conducted because of the files that are no longer accessible from the Washington State’s firearm registration (Wash Rev Code n.d.) This case like many others have stopped their research because of the restrictions made by Congress. The solution is to simply get rid of restrictions put on CDC and other Health and Human Services. This will not only help in understanding the gun violence problem but also help us find approaches to reduce gun violence in America. Additionally, approaching gun violence as a public health issue will allow us to help reduce more deaths. It is a different approach to stop this epidemic of gun violence. As mentioned earlier, research over gun violence is substantial to stop this epidemic of gun violence. We must identify the underlying causes of gun violence and how it is transmitted.
