NEW INTRODUCTION: Gladiators is a complicated topic to argue about because there are many ways to argue over this topic. This argument is misguided because people all have their own opinions. The actual question that should be debated is we’re gladiators heroes or victims??? MANY PEOPLE THINK VICTIMS. Today i’m going to argue on why Gladiators were heroes and not victims here are a few reasons why, Some gladiators chose to fight, Gladiators all had the same intent to do something bad, and finally gladiators were just not slaves.

Gladitators is a complicated topic because some people think gladiators were heroes and not victims while most others think they were slaves & ragdolls. People think that gladiators are slaves because they were captured and forced to fight. This is misguided because even though they were captured and forced to fight they had to have deserved it either way like if they were a warrior from another army they were going to fight either way and what if they were a criminal they had to of done a crime to deserve the punishment that they got, and if they were just straight up captured they still got …show more content…

For example Spartacus was a famous gladiator that chose to fight and he fought heroically in the arena and most famous glads of all time, another well known gladiator that fought willingly was hermes. In addition is even if you were a slave you chose to fight for your own country probably knowing if you got captured you’d be forced to fight as a gladiator same goes if you made a crime. Even though gladiators ¨The men had nothing with which to protect themselves¨ the gladiators perservered to make them heroes of their day. In conclusion some gladiators chose to fight making them heroes and not victims, this also leads into my next paragraph which is gladiators had the intent to do something bad

The film was directed by Ridley Scott and the lead roles of the film were carried out by Russell Crowe as Maximus and Joaquin Phoenix as Commodus(Imdb). The movie takes place during the reign of the Holy Roman Empire in the year 180 A.D. The Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, is dying and wishes to leave the Roman Empire under the control of Roman General Maximus Meridius. The Emperor’s son Commodus betrays Maximus, kills his father, and takes control of Rome. In betraying Maximus, Commodus has his family killed. Maximus knowing this returns to Rome as a gladiator under the alias “Spaniard” in search of revenge(Imdb).
