Privacy is a really tricky issue to handle. Most Americans would agree that they don't have enough privacy, and it's true. There aren't enough restrictions or laws made to protect our privacy because it's not as easy as it should be. Americans not having protected privacy can be helpful in many ways which makes it a problem to set laws. "The Privacy Debate" states, “A 1999 Wall Street Journal poll found that loss of privacy ranked as Americans’ number-one concern for the new century.” Privacy really is a growing issue that needs to be protected if Americans want to feel safe in their lives. When you think of an invasion of privacy, the negative effects are probably what comes to mind. Although, the benefits that it does create makes it hard for restrictions to be set. The amount of privacy that we have impacts us in areas we shouldn't have to worry about. From stopping at a stoplight or eating in a restaurant, we are constantly being monitored and watched. Andrea Rock from "How Private Is Your Private Life" explained that everywhere she went in her daily schedule she was being monitored and tracked without her knowing. Being on a personal computer at home seems private, but companies can create profiles and track the websites you visit. Your phone calls can also be interrupted by anyone with a radio receiver. Your rewards card for stores can track what you buy, when you buy it, and how much you shop. Those are only a few of the many ways that privacy can be invaded from simple activities. "How Private Is Your Private Life" talks about not saying or doing anything online or over the phone that you wouldn't want someone else to see or hear because someone or something can find out.
