The idea of students carrying firearms in college can be a shocking idea, and might even seem outlandish, but with Texas senate bill 11 passing in the near future this will be the case. There are many pros and cons to the argument. The cons to having students carrying guns in the school setting can be argued at great length, but there are two main points against students carrying in schools. The first main point is the fact that students could cause more harm at a school if they were to decide to go on a shooting spree. This point makes sense strictly due to the fact that having large groups of people in a single or relatively close space makes shooting people easier. The second point is people feeling unsafe in class could discourage or …show more content…
With that said, we are not surprised in the least that the majority of the members in the legislature put the interests of the gun lobby ahead of the interests of higher education and students (our greatest asset).” (Pelosi http://keepgunsoffcampus.org/) This campaign is playing on the emotions of the people by portraying the Texas Government as big business money hungry individuals which is true, but does not seem to bother anyone in Texas due to them being elected over and over again. The other states such as Florida which as close to the same gun laws as Texas and is in the process of passing campus carry as well. I could not care less about whether people are carrying guns to school or not there will always be someone to do something extreme one way or another. On one side of the argument the extreme is that with the law passed there will be more violence at colleges around Texas, and guess what? There is violence at all colleges maybe not gun violence, but violence is there none the less. Yet people think not letting guns to be lawfully carried on campus is going to stop someone who is going to preplan an attack of
There is a saying that says, “Why fix something that isn’t broke?” In other words, if something is doing good the way it is already then don’t change it. The same applies with concealed gun carry on college campuses. If college campuses have been statistically proven to be one of the safest public places, then why try to fix them by bringing concealed guns into campuses. I believe that there should not be concealed handguns allowed in college campuses because it will make students more unsafe, would make the learning environment in class a very unhealthy experience, and cause trouble for the campus police to spot a real shooter.
A poster supporting the Georgia Campus Carry Act of 2013 shows an individual holding a gun on one side that says “Armed Staff and Students”, the other side says “No Legal Guns Allowed”, and the bottom says “Which campus would a mass murderer pick?” The purpose of the poster is to persuade lawmakers and the public to see from the criminal’s vantage point that a campus which is a gun-free or less protected will be an easier target to commit a crime. It is an eye catching, thought provoking poster, with a clear message. “The intent is that faculty, employees, students, and visitors who qualify for a Georgia weapons carry license could exercise their right to self-defense in Georgia 's colleges and universities” (Stone, 2013). Gun-control laws are a very controversial topic right now in the U.S., especially when it comes to allowing concealed-carry holders on college campuses. Nevertheless, guns should be permitted for concealed carry on college campuses if the carriers have concealed-carry licenses because mass shootings occur mostly in gun-free zones. There have been many incidents in which concealed-carry holders have disarmed attackers, and concealed-carry holders are overwhelmingly law-abiding citizens. However, the argument’s opponents believe guns should not be allowed on college campuses for various reasons, including: professors might be afraid to issue bad grades, a gun may go off by accident, college
Did you know that open carry has been allowed in all 50 states since 2013? However only a small number of college campuses allow for open carry on their school campus. There are numerous reasons that open carry should be allowed on campus. Some of which are: in case of an active shooter there will be less death, there is increased safety among the public, and there is a decrease
There's a problem in America. Children, defenseless are being shot one by one. They go to their school and the schools are a gun free zone. The shooters take advantage of it and take the children's lives. Teachers should be able to carry a handgun to protect their children. This is very important, to all teachers and students for their safety. Shooters wouldn't come in the school knowing that the teacher had a gun. Students would feel way safer. There would be a lot of safety that would go into this.there are a lot of facts that can help us make the decision.
When someone has a license to carry a concealed firearm, it does not mean that they should be able to carry wherever they would like. No one person is responsible enough for that privilege. In a high stress situation of an active shooter scene, even a highly trained person can make a bad assessment of the situation. Someone that just bought their first firearm or just got their license to carry, can make the situation worse. Firearms should not be allowed on any school campus because they are dangerous, can lead to more gun violence, and more innocent deaths due to inexperience.
Should handgun ownership be banned? I don't believe so. You would think America would learn from examples from other countries. When you take away handguns the crime rate rises. American citizens need to know their rights, responsibilities and safety of owning a handgun.
Due to the recent disruption of violent crimes on campus, many citizens that are pro-gun activist have suggested that both the students and teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on school campuses. Those who are with guns allowed on school campuses claim that their rights have been violated for the reason that many college campuses refuse to allow weapons of any kind on their property. The Constitution of The United States of America already grants citizens the right to carry guns with them. It is not appropriate for guns to be in a vulnerable area such as a college campus or any University. There are already too many guns available to the public or easy to get any kind of gun, and allowing them on
I do think that freedom needs to be won more than once. It shouldn’t need to though. Our founding fathers wrote the Constitution which have our freedoms, the 10 amendments. Our soldiers even fought for our freedom. America isn’t free anymore. My dad’s friend’s friend said that he is from South Africa and they have more freedom than we do.
The idea of someone carrying a firearm on any educational campus can cause a debate in most groups. The arguments for either side are mostly opinionated with skewed facts. Today, everyone will be introduced to a new concept by compromise and proven methods. The idea of every legal person can carry on educational campuses can be accomplished with the implementation of proper training. The training standards for concealed carry license should be standard, with additional training for specialized locations. There is training for active shooter situations every school, the issue is the ability to execute the plan. With the proper style of training every campus in the United States could be safer and operate with less fear among the students, staff and faculty
Teachers with concealed gun permits should be allowed to carry guns on campus because teachers have had very thorough background checks, they have come into the teaching profession because they care about kids, and to gain a concealed weapons permit extensive training is required.
Guns are devices created to kill. Are they really necessary on college campuses? They are a danger to the students and the staff. They should be strictly forbidden because firearms are dangerous, students are most likely to suffer an accident and the security becomes less granted to those inside of a space dedicated to education. In addition, they are not safe, accidents happen and it might shoot off by accident. Someone can just get crazy and do terrible things. Society will be safer if we all got rid of those nasty devices, which have only caused, massive tragedies in the world.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
All handguns must be banned because they are the cause (s) of many deaths amongst the people of the world today. Gun violence result in fifty percent of today’s tragedies. Handguns causes too many deaths, the government need to make gun less accessible, and the law/law enforcement need to really enforce the laws they make.
