Throughout our lives, we young Americans anticipate the day that we attain the American dream. Sadly, this dream is becoming more and more difficult to achieve due to rising college expenses. How can someone succeed if they are not given the opportunity to do so? In order for high school graduates to be able to succeed in life, state college should be tuition free.
One reason state college should be tuition free is so student loan debt is reduced or even eradicated. Like the Washington Post, states “A college degree is the new high school diploma.” A college degree is essential to thriving in America today and student loans have become the primary way to pay for this. Unfortunately, the United States’ college tuition costs have risen by 757 percent as of 1980. It takes many college graduates months and sometimes years to get a job after graduation. Finding a job is definitely not an overnight experience. This leaves people in debt with no job to pay it off. Students, given the chance to a higher education, are given the chance to better their lives. With a college degree, more Americans can have careers and make more money. Then, move on to provide better lives for their future children, which are the future of America. An increase of people with jobs means that more Americans can provide for themselves and assist family. This also means fewer people will be homeless or starving. Less poverty-stricken people will lessen the need for government assistance. Then, this money could be used for other important things like paying off the U.S. student loan debt. More motivated and working Americans will reduce unemployment and poverty
