Veterans risked their lives for our freedom, and get nothing in return. They come back and they do not get much help, or they suffer for the rest of their lives. I feel that we need to put more money and resources into helping them with the experiences that they had. Many have problems getting back into the role of society. Others can not overcome the losses of friends or the traumas they have suffered. In the UK, they have many more opportunities for veterans to get help when they return home or years after they returned than the U.S. has. The journal of mental health said that the “UK government will give payments toward health care, physical injuries, and support for mental health issues.” The U.S. should do something similar. The UK is trying to help and we just allow them to go on with life. We let veterans struggle in life and not step in and help. When they return, they should get a list of places that are willing to help them if they need it.The journal of mental health also says “The U.S. has over 1400 sites” for veterans to receive help. But, the majority still do not know how to gain access to them. …show more content…

The university of Oregon said “ the U.S. military spends enormous amounts of money and time preparing soldiers for war, but very little preparing them for civilian life.” It would not take much more money to help prepare they for civilian life. For many, they have troubles remembering their role(s) in their families or society. Many soldiers have troubles turning off the skills they were taught in the military. This means some will still be in “survival/attack mode” or be on constant alert. They would not trust their loved ones or scare their kids by their actions.
