Ever since the division of Korea, North Korea has making a lot of controversial decisions, and many have had a negative impact in them. From invading South Korea, making the first armed confrontation of the Cold War, to assassination attempts to South Korean leaders. Having a lot of military personnel, North Korea has always been a fan of showing their power. But the current most controversial news surrounding North Korea, is its eagerness to show the world its nuclear weapons. Conducting their first official test in 2006, under the ruling of Kim Jong-il, raising many eyebrows around the globe.

After their first official military test, North Korea was sanctioned by the United Nations of exporting military materials. One would believe that they would respect these sanctions, but then again, them being in a dictatorship made them believe they can do what they want. They proceeded to conduct many more tests, causing them to earn more sanctions, clearly not caring at all. Both of which passed over the country of Japan, both times filling the Japanese citizens with fear. With these tests, the United Nations added more sanctions to North Korea, recently banning them from receiving oil imports and exporting textiles. The new sanctions were implemented with hopes that North Korea will have a limited source of oil, making it hard for them to fuel new missiles for new tests. US ambassador in the UN, Nikki Haley, said that “We are done trying to prod the regime to do the right thing, we are now trying to stop it from having the ability to do the wrong thing”.
