Introduction Members of Al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners on the morning of September 11, 2001, with an objective of carrying out suicide attacks against some key targets in the United States. These four planes destroyed buildings such as the Pentagon, Twin Towers in New York City and a field in Pennsylvania. The attack claimed the lives of over 2,900 innocent Americans. It also became the changing point in our society as it fueled wars which brought about racism and discrimination, increased the security at the airports, showed American patriotism and provided insights on why we should prioritize national security. This research essay, therefore, aims to explain various issues in our American society while focusing on airport security, US reaction to terror, stereotypes against Muslims and the public’s reaction to the attack. There are some similarities between the accounts of the people who were present during the 9/11 attack and those who watched from around the world. The attack was very devastating and inhumane. Thousands of people died from the incident and some on the ground were lucky enough to live because they ran to avoid serious injuries. The kind of security detail before the attack was not as strict as it is now. A lot has changed ever since and Muslims are having a difficult time to cope with being victims of excess security scrutiny. The public and the whole world as well are being watched by the keen eye of the security detail and many have fallen victims of harassment. The world has changed a great deal and there are drone attacks that help keep the enemy at bay before they get the chance to actually go ahead with their plans.
