The Bennet's are by no means a picture perfect family. Between Mrs. Bennets poor manners and Mr. Bennets lack of leadership the family is in a rut. The Bennet parents exemplified, multiple times, their poor parenting skills. The first example I saw was when Mrs. Bennet forced Jane to ride a horse to Netherfield so she could stay the night. The second, both Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's behavior at the Netherfield ball. Lastly, the fact that the Bennet's allowed Lydia to go to Brighton and their behavior after she ran away to elope. For these reasons I believe that Bennet parents are putting their daughters future in jeopardy. From the beginning of the book we come to understand the only thing Mrs. Bennet cares about is marrying off her five daughters, and doing whatever it takes to do so. Once Mrs. Bennet sees that Jane has taken a liking to Mr. Bingley, and vice versa, her mission is set. Bennet want to follow the red coats to Brighton. Jane and Elizabeth are against this as well as Mr. Bennet, however Lydia finds a way around relocating the entire family. Lydia was invited to travel to Brighton by colonel Froster and his wife. After receiving this news, Mrs. Bennet's is filled with glee and assures Lydia she will find a husband in Brighton. However, Elizabeth is scared Lydia will make a fool of herself and ruin the family name. When Elizabeth expresses these concerns to Mr. Bennet's he simply replies, "Lydia will never be easy until she has exposed herself in some public place or other, and we can never expect her to do it with so little expense or inconvenience to her family as under the present circumstances."
