In this paper, I argue that for a particular tree T, T is the sum of all parts of the tree and P represents the individual components that make up the sum such as the leaves, branches and roots, where T can exist for a period without P, but P must exist as a part of T. My argument proceeds by, in the fall, trees that lose their leaves are still standing while trees without leaves throughout multiple seasons will die, cutting tree branches off the tree will cause the branches to die but allow the tree to continue its existence, each part has its own role that contributes to T and each part that is removed is replaceable by the tree.
In the fall, most trees lose their leaves. During this process the leaves die as they fall from the tree. They are separated from the tree every year, but only during a period of cold when the tree hibernates. During this period the tree is running on lower energy so it does not need the leaves to sustain itself. A tree cannot exist indefinitely without leaves. Other times during a year, people can pluck leaves off the trees. This does not kill the tree. Removal of the leaves can harm the tree if it is excessive, but in small doses does not stop the existence of T. Leaves left on the ground will die and …show more content…

Now I will discuss the branches as they relate to T. Branches are removed from trees for various reasons and the trees still continue their existence. When trees have the branches cut off, the tree eventually grows new branches. This shows that the tree is capable of existing without the branches. While people can cut branches back without killing the tree, the branches will not live long without being attached to the rest of the tree. Similar to the removal of leaves, if the tree has all of its branches removed, it will not be able to exist for
