Six million people were killed during the time period known as the Holocaust. But, many, many more suffered due to Adolf Hitler’s horrific plan. Anne Frank and her family hid in an Annex for 25 months to avoid being taken to a concentration camp. And in the drama written by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich, eight people crowded inside of a secret Annex that was hidden by a bookcase were hoping to survive until the liberation of Holland was over. What started as a hiding place for a few months, soon stretched out to be over 2 years. Many historical events portrayed in Anne Frank caused changes in the drama. Changes in the Characters as well as their changes of actions were revealed due to historical events.
As the characters experienced historical events throughout the drama, the relationships of the characters changed greatly depending on the event. “ Did you change your mind, the way I changed my mind about you?”(Hackett, 174). It changed the relationship between them, causing Peter to kiss Anne. “ Peter grabbed her awkwardly in his arms, kissing her on the cheek.” (Hackett, 174). “ And so it seems our stay here is over. They are waiting for us now. They’ve allowed us five minutes to get our things,” (Hackett, 186). Anne went for being happy to being scared and worried when Anne hears a sound of a car and brakes squealing that's when she realizes that she will never see her family again. “ Anne stands, holding her school satchel, looking over at her father and mother with a soft, reassuring smile.” ( Hackett, 186). This clearly shows how Annes mood went from Happy to Scared and Worried when she heard that car brakes squealing and that's when she knew that she would be torn away from her
