Anke's Journey: Finding Voice Amidst Indifference

“I am always there. But they don't care if I am, because I am furniture.”(pg.3). Around her family Anke feels like a stranger, when her family should be the ones who love her the most. In this essay I will be talking about three main points. The three things I will be talking about is the characters, the setting, and the climax.

The first point I will be talking about are the characters. The main character is Anke, Anke is a freshman in high school struggling with her family and school. She finally once she joins the school's volleyball team where you have to yell “mine” in order to hit the ball. Now Anke finds her inner voice she never thought she had. During the climax her dad is not home and Anke’s friend Angie loves Anke’s dad because, Angie thinks he is the nicest person and “dad” ever. She just never sees his bad side because, he treats her with so much care. Once her friend knew that Anke’s dad was at the office having a meeting, Angie decided to go over there and surprise him. Once Anke finds out she runs over to her dad’s office before he's able to do anything to her. When Anke arrives to the office it's as if she got there too late and Anke’s “father” is so close to raping Andgie. She immediately screams at her father and tells her friend to go home. Anke runs back to her house before her dad got there and makes all these lies up. Thankfully Anke got there before her father did, and ran into the house. When her dad got there, he said “Sorry I couldn't give you a ride home” sliding into the living room throwing his briefcase “I had a meeting” he said staring straight back at Anke. “Liar” Anke says “you weren't at a meeting” she said. “You were with Angie at the office” “You think I don't know you hurt my brother, sister and mom!!” She shoves his chair forward with so much force it touches his foot. He picks it up by the seat, suddenly spinning the chair in the air and smashes it onto her. Splinters go into her skin with a loud crack. Anke broke her leg and fractured her arm.
