Introduction
Films have always fascinated. Films are much more than moving images in succession, or even the story they portray. A good film gives you an experience of the plotline so real, you just cannot help admiring the genius of the director.
The history of animation in making films is long and colourful, but not glorious. As a medium of story-telling, it has yet to rise to its potential. Animation needs more popularity, for the creators and their fruit of labour. As a medium, animation offers a lot of creative independence to the maker of the film, which sometimes is seen as a crutch, instead of a boon. The element of acting is subdued in most animated films, which for some, takes away some of its glory. However, an animation film director has to take on the role of all the characters in the film, and direct on how to animate them.
The animation scene is dominated by few large companies, and Hollywood. Disney, for example is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world, with a revenue of $42 billion (2012). Given its long history since its inception by Walt Disney in 1923, Disney has become one of the most influential players in the entertainment industry. Some movies are famous across generations. Thus, it is hardly surprising that Disney is one of the company that influences children the most, with its innovative animation and imaginary worlds and diverse characters.
However, animated films are still considered child’s play, or to be precise, mostly meant for children audiences. The big media corporations do not seem to be particularly interested in catering to the needs of grown up audiences by making intelligent cinema using animation.

...alities of war in Iran, she tries to embrace the western culture in various forms. She associates with headbangers, metalheads, anarchists and in school, tries to get round Sartre and Freud, but it never really clicks with her. Once, Marjane is seen claiming to be French, when on a date. Her conscience gets the better of her when she imagines her grandmother scolding her for abandoning her identity. Her own relatives were willing to sacrifice themselves for their belief in their homeland, and this makes Marjane ashamed. She even abandons her nihilist friends, but goes into a state of depression herself.
Rebellion is the characteristic traits that resonates from Marjane’s animated personality. She is shown to be outspoken, especially in her childhood, during the rule of the Shah. And this rebellion is her means of fighting for equality for women in Iranian society.

Fatima Mernissi is a young woman who learns so much about herself from her culture, her society, and politics. She puts the same level of thought into understanding all aspects of life and especially wants to understand and explore the ideas of a frontier, or boundary, between the harem and the outside world. Fatima dreamed of trespassing and seeing new things (2). The Frontier is a symbolic division between life in the harem and life outside the harem, Fatima says that in some cases the frontier is tangible, such as in the example of the gate at her house.
Hayao Miyazaki’s body of work reflects how commercial animation can be mesmerizing, inspiring and empowering even without the use of the usual formula for animation that we see in most commercial animated features.

In the end, what Halberstam is doing in her essay “Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation”, is providing a new way of thinking. Not just about the animated films she discusses, but also about humanity as a whole. Films such as Toy Story, Over the Hedge, and even Finding Nemo are used to represent a new utopia for children where they can escape the troubles of reality that are created by those that they are surrounded with. And other films such as March of the Penguins , that are used to rework humanity. Altogether,
When it comes to culture, different views can cause major conflicts, and these said conflicts occur in the novel Persepolis. The book is a memoir about Marjane Satrapi, also known as Marji, growing up in Iran under the Shah’s rule and the Islamic rule. Even with the many different cultures in Iran, she stuck up for what she believed in and rebelled against the things she thought were wrong. In Persepolis, Marjane’s growth is affected by various aspects of culture including religion, government, and social organization.
Despite the fact that Marjane is born and raised in Tehran, Iran, she is as much a product of Western customs as of Middle Eastern customs. The younger Marjane showed how the Iranian Revolution affected her life. The Iranian Revolution was the exiling of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and its concluding substitution with an Islamic republic under the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution, supported by a mixture of leftist and Islamic organizations. The new government became more suppressive by enforcing Islamic laws into the constitution and prohibiting westerner influence of any kind. On the contrary Marjane is raised by Marxist parents, who believe in freedom and tend to adapt to a more westernized upbringing. Marjane is similar to any other teenager, she starts to grow up and rebel against her elders and her traditions. Her revolt takes the form of a better awareness of and interaction with western culture. Marjane have many items ...
Just like most art forms it takes practice to become really good at animating. Computers have helped to make animation a quicker and simpler process then it once was. Now computers have been used in almost every animated film that has come out in the last ten years. Because of this animation quality has improve dramatically to the point that animated characters are serving as major characters in many of the top movies today. This includes characters such as Ja-Ja Banks in Starwars, The many dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park movies, and Gollum in the Lord of the Ring movies.
Rapid development of film has brought the film industry in its heyday. In modern era, as the people’s interest to watch the film increases, many film producers are competing to produce high-quality movies. Starting from the genre of romance, action, to horror, even animated films also proved much loved by moviegoers. Not only American-made animated film which gets a lot of attention from movie lovers, Japanese’s animation production, which more so-called anime, also begins to compete a lot in the film industry (Linsenmaier, 2008; Gan, 2009).
“Whenever someone hears the word ‘anime’ they immediately think of Japanese animation or in the very least Asian cartoons. Really, though the word ‘anime’ is derived form the word ‘animation’. And the definition of animation is the making of movies by filming a sequence of slightly varying drawings or models so that they appear to move and change when the sequence is shown.” (par. 1)
Animation is a visual technique that creates the illusion of motion, rather than recording motion through live action. The technique is used mainly for motion pictures. Animation can be created by illustrators, filmmakers, video makers, and computer specialists. Animation is most popular in creating cartoon movies. Advertisers also employ animation to develop commercials for television. In addition, producers of instructional films may use animation to help explain a difficult idea or one that could not be shown in live action. Animation can also be combined with live action in a movie. Many animators continue to make many drawings by hand. Since the mid-1980's, however, computer assistance combined with hand-drawn animation has become standard in many movie studios. These methods created such feature-length animated films as The Lion King (1994) and The Prince of Egypt (1998).

Analyzing film has been around since the making of movies in the early 1900s. Here in the United States film really blossomed in the 1920’s. Production of films started on the West Coast in Hollywood. The earliest films were organized into genres or types, with storylines, settings, costumes, and characters (Dirks, 2010). Films are made to entertain, and when viewers watch the film they find themselves drawn into the characters personality and the plot. Because of film’s popularity many people use films as an agent of communication, education, and learnin...
Computer technology invades the film industry. The existence of computers have aided in the production of genres of film ranging from action movie special effects, to cartoon animation and claymation. Computer Generated Imagery, better known as CGI, assists filmmakers in many ways. An image can be made two-dimensional from a three-dimensional scene, camera angles can be altered to make a character seem larger and thus more important than its surrounding bodies, and colors can be brightened or neutralized, among other things (Parsons, Oja 1). Without the aid of computers, movies would not have the ability to be what they are today.
