Recommended: Ethics for testing animals

The use of animals to test human medicine and cosmetics should be banned in the United States because of the negative effects the animals have to endure and the unreliability of the products that pass animal tests. Animals have been tested on since the second century (Scutti). Currently, 26 million animals are tortured and often killed to test human products, and 95% of these animals aren’t covered by the Animal Welfare Act which prevents animal abuse (ProCon). Additionally, the FDA estimates 92% of the tests “shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials because they don’t work or are dangerous” to people’s safety (Peta).
