Animal Farm was produced in Great Britain in 1954 by Joy Bachelor and John Halas, Gordon Heath was the narrator while Maurice Denham played the voice of all the animals. The plot of the movie has been heavily altered and does not reflect the original events in the book. This in my opinion detracts from Orwell's original motives. In addition the Narrator is way too involved in guiding the movie and there is very little action that occurs directly from the animals. Finally the movie progresses very slowly, the diegetic sound quality is lacking. On the bright side the dark lighting closely mirror what occurs in the book and the non diegetic sounds change based on events in the story which make the movie viewing experience more enjoyable. Animal Farm starts when Old Major an old dying pig tells the animals that they can improve their lifestyle by claiming the farm for themselves from their master. After the Pigs heed Old Majors advice and claim the farm many accomplishments such as the sunday meetings are made. However in the end Napoleon kicks out Snowball who had suggested many of the reforms and their life ends up just as bad as before under his rule. The first major plot alteration in the movie was how old major died right after giving his speech. However in the book Old Major dies 3 days after he gives his speech …show more content…

The best part of the movie too me would have to be the animations. Although the animations itself are nothing special today they were actually very good during the 1950’s especially for a propaganda film. The voices were a little worse with Benjamin seeming a lot more enthusiastic compared to the book, yet Napoleon and Squealer’s voices sounded accurate to their roles. The main hurdle for me was simply trying to enjoy the story which was hampered by the narrator taking charge of the whole story which hampered the plot.
