“The root of evil comes from the abuse of power.” Power is to have authority over others and to run that group of people. However, can having too much power or not enough power affect an individual? An individual can be affected by power to the extent where the person with power uses it to manipulate others, or a person who doesn't have power is manipulated.
There are cases where leaders do choose to abuse their power. For example, in Animal Farm, the pigs abuse their power by tricking the animals to believe they need the apples and milk more than the other animals. The pigs know the animals will believe them, and use this to their advantage. The pigs repeatedly trick the animals too, later on, take beds, and larger food rations for themselves. To use your power to trick others for your selfish needs is abusing your power and is what summons evil. …show more content…

In Animal Farm the pigs are generally the smartest ones, while the other animals aren't as smart and simply obey the pigs since they know what they’re doing. Orwell says “ You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health...So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and the windfall apples should be reserved for the pigs alone.” Since the pigs are clever they use the animals trust against them and convince them that they don't like the apples and milk, but in reality, they do like it and trick them to think the pigs need it more than them. Basically, the pigs abuse their power and use the animals disadvantage of not being clever, against the animals.
