Anesthesiology is a job for specialized physicians who administer anesthesia, a medication to prevent pain during surgeries and other medical procedures; there are many requirements to become an anesthesiologist, and it has a good work environment, salary, and a high demand.

Before going into college those interested in becoming an anesthesiologist must think of the classes they should take in high school. Classes in the subject of math and science, especially chemistry and biology, help a lot in preparing people to become an anesthesiologist. “Today anesthesiologists have many options available to them including work in dentist offices, outpatient surgical centers, labor and delivery units (administering epidurals) pain management clinics, critical and intensive care units (stabilizing a patients condition) and teaching and research.” (“Anesthesiologist information” 1). Most surgeries are scheduled ahead of time, which gives the anesthesiologist time to consult with the patient and even the patients family, but in emergency situations, such as a car wreck or a heart attack, an anesthesiologist must be able to make quick decisions and decide what is best for the patient. Sometimes the job can be calm and relaxed, and other times it is stressful and requires quick thinking abilities.
