Movie Critique: Back to the Future

Back to the Future is a film that intrigues audiences because of its originality and creativity of a story set in 1985, in Hill Valley, California. The story takes off when Marty Mcfly accidentally uses the time machine, built by Doc, and sends himself to 1955. He changes the course of events when instead of his father getting hit by Lorraine's father’s car he actually does. In the original timeline of events George Mcfly gets hit by the car and that is how Lorraine and George fell in love. In a movie like Back to the Future, it requires a lot of special effects, some with a computer and some with not. Throughout the movie everything I saw was, believable, but definitely not the best quality. I thought the acting in the film was done very well. When Doc was shot, I felt Marty’s pain. Also George’s character was such a fun character to watch because of the distinct personality, and I think the actor portrayed him very well. The film also has a lot of foreshadowing. For example, Marty takes hold of a Jeep as he skateboards through downtown Hill Valley in 1985 on his way to school. His skills come in handy in 1955 when he grabs the back of a pickup truck to skateboard away from Biff's gang. Another example of foreshadowing was Marty comments saying, "Well, history is gonna change", not realizing that he will alter the present timeline. Symbolism also plays a role in the film when Marty wears a vest that people in 1955 think is a life preserver. This is symbolism because Marty is literally trying to preserve his life. Lastly another example of symbolism is the speed of 88 mph. This might just seem like a random numbers the directors picked, but if you flip the 8 on its side you get an infinity symbol.
