The Power of Adaption to Tragedy in “Soul Surfer” One of Sean McNamara’s many outstanding films is no other than “Soul Surfer”. The film is based on a true story and in the heart of this film is the main character, Bethany Hamilton. A tragedy that causes her an arm due to a shark attack results in a paradigm shift in Bethany’s life. Bethany’s battle against the tragedy with a venerable attitude is one of the highlights of this film. Despite the fact that it may seem unequivocally redundant to surf with one hand, she was adamant about her dream of becoming a pro surfer. With such encouraging family members and friends, Bethany does not feel pressured to change who she is. After getting home from the hospital, she is welcomed back with open arms by her family. Although there are moments when Bethany feels alone and hopeless due to her disability, her parents and friends are always there for her to turn to for comfort and advice. At one point, Bethany feels as though she has lost everything but her father reassures her that she still has her whole family who loves her so much and is willing to accept her flaws and the decisions she makes. During the competition, Alana sacrifices herself by pushing Bethany’s rival into the waters to avoid her from stealing Bethany’s wave and as a result, is disqualified. This comes to show that no matter what happens, Bethany always has her family and friends by her side and they will always have her back.
