Servant Leadership and Volunteerism
One could volunteer and provide selfless service to others in many ways. According to Edwards (2012), volunteering is a service-act of one’s own freewill…without compensation. In this paper, a summary of my volunteer experience will be included together with the principle of Greenleaf that was utilized, how it helped the author realized how the volunteerism create a positive impact, and become a better servant leader.
Volunteer Experience

According to the Corporation for National and Community Service (2017), the intangible benefits alone of volunteerism are pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment, in addition, to helping an individual develop their problem solving skills, it helps strengthen communities, improve Lives, connect to others, and transform our own lives. The great feeling of volunteerism makes you want to do it more. As the quote from Aesop says, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Everyone has the opportunity to serve other. Leaders that have a calling to be a servant leader are selfless and emphasize primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong (Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, 2016). This opportunity helps me focus on others, assist with their growth, and build my community. I want to include the phrase stated by Bill George in one of our course reading that I think very appropriate with this project, “As a servant leader, you can change the world. Not the whole world of course, but the world in which you live, work, and interact with others. You can make this world a better place through your character and your leadership…Never doubt the power of a small group of people to change the world” (2015, para. 9). With a small act of kindness we can make a difference, I want to set an example to others that it is not that hard to accomplish something very rewarding that not only help one person but as well as the people around
