William Shakespeare once said, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” For example, Romeo and Juliet's love for each other started off good, but the friar made their love for each other a bad thing due to his lack of thinking things through. This proves that the deaths of Romeo and Juliet came from Friar Lawrence's poor decision making and not because of fate. Three key mistakes and two children end up dead because of those mistakes. The friar caused their deaths by being irresponsible, like when he gives the poison to Juliet, makes to many poor decisions since he trusts someone else with a letter of great significance, and he acts like a coward when he flees the tomb as soon as the watch arrive .
Friar Lawrence’s biggest mistake came when he trusted Juliet, only a teenager, with a poison of great danger. This terrible decision just adds to the list of poor choices made by the friar. In this quote, he shows his irresponsibility by saying, “take thou this vial... ...
Who would be willing to die for their loved ones? Romeo and Juliet would and did. Romeo and Juliet’s love and death brought two families together who could not even remember the origin of their hate. When the parents saw what their children's love for each other, they realized that their fighting had only led to suffering and insoluble conflict. Romeo and Juliet loved each other to an extent that they killed themselves rather than live apart. They did it with no hiatus. Juliet says before she kills herself, “O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die.”( 5, 3, 182-183) demonstrating how she would rather die than not be with him.
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet goes back for centuries. It still captivates millions of readers every year. Is it the way Shakespeare always keeps people guessing? How about the theme of relying on fate? Maybe its because every time this wonderful piece of literature is read no one can decide exactly on who is blame? Is it really Juliet's fault for falling in love and taking chances? Is it their parent’s faults for fighting in the first place? Yes, but no. Friar Lawrence is the one to blame for the death of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Lawrence is the one who marries them, gives Juliet a sketchy potion, and does not live up to his promise at the end of the play. Friar Lawrence may be a wise, truthful, friendly human being, however that means nothing when it comes to the fact that he killed the pair of star crossed lovers.
Friar Lawrence showed that he was impatient when he rushed everything and didn’t wait to see if Romeo received the letter, instead he gave her the potion. When she drank the potion and Romeo came to see her, he assumed she was dead and drank a poison and fell dead at her side, after awakening Juliet sees Romeo dead beside her and takes his dagger and says “O happy dagger, this is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.” And plunges the dagger into her stomach and too falls dead with her beloved Romeo. If Friar Lawrence hadn’t been so sympathetic with marrying the two and hadn’t been impatient when it came to the letter, Romeo wouldn’t have drunken the poison and Juliet would have never stabbed herself. In conclusion, the tragic death of young Romeo and Juliet can be blamed on their family and friends.
Romeo changes throughout the book. When Romeo went to the Capulets party, he was in love with Rosaline. He saw Juliet and immediately loved her. In act two scene two it Romeo says this about Juliet, "Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, Having some business, do entreat her eyes To twinkle in their spheres till they return." He compares her eyes to stars in the night sky. Romeo talks about Juliet and is wanting to talk to her. This shows how Romeo is loving and sweet. In the last act of the book Romeo sees Juliet dead in the tomb. She is not really dead, but he doesn't know that. He kills himself so he can be with her in heaven. Romeo is a very loving person, but in one scene he turns into a very hateful person.
“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name;” (Shakespeare, 536). In the book, ‘Romeo and Juliet”, by William Shakespeare there is a deeper meaning that Shakespeare is trying to portray other than parents cannot control their children’s hearts. He is trying to portray that a name is only a name and it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and that even with a different name that person will still be the same person they have always been. Page after page he accomplished countless errors that eventually cost the lives of young Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is the most responsible for the unfortunate, tragic death of the star-crossed lovers in William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, because of his numerous thoughtless decisions.
Resulting in the death of herself, Friar Lawrence had even said, "If.thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself.take thou this vial.no warmth, no breath shall testify the livest." He should have been more careful, Friar. Laurence's idea for Juliet was very risky and because of his own ignorance has ended up in tragedy. He also admits that he left the tomb and left Juliet there. The Friar knew that Juliet had previously threatened to kill herself, yet he still abandoned her with Romeo's knife.
He was careless while setting the plan and applying it, as well. Friar Lawrence's plan went wrong, not only his message did not reach Romeo, but also knew about her death. Furthermore, no one was going to be there when Juliet wakes up, as he thought, but Romeo was there before him with fake news. When the plan wenwrong that is a proof for his carelessness while planning and fulfilling it. Also, when he discovered that it went wrong, his reaction was not fast enough. The plan not working was a result of his unplanned steps, not ensuring Romeo got the true news before the fake one and that he was there when Juliet wakes up. While it may be true that his incautious moves resulted in Romeo and Juliet dying from the thought that their partner is dead, but it also resulted in the Prince Escalus and the families feeling guilty, stopping the arguments and reuniting in keeping this memory shinning. Likewise, Friar Lawrence's support to Romeo and Juliet gave them more courage to move further and doing it secretly, which made everything worse and laid more responsibility on him. Friar Lawrence, " Well, come with me, young man. I shall do this for one reason: perhaps this marriage will turn your families
The suicides of Romeo and Juliet reflect their hasty and impulsive decisions as well as the dishonesty of Friar Lawrence and the Nurse. Romeo’s haste in drinking the venomous poison, Friar’s cowardice in handling the consequences as well as the Nurse’s choice of standing against the relationship of Romeo and Juliet contribute equally to their fatal end. Therefore, dishonesty and haste can result in undesirable circumstances to any individual.
Through the flaws in the characterization of his characters, Shakespeare allows their weakness to manipulate and cloud their judgment. This fundamentally leads to the outcome of Romeo and Juliet, with each weakness presenting a conflict that alters the characters fate. Being especially true with the star-crossed lovers, William Shakespeare leads their perfect love into tragedy with these conflicts. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt all contribute to conflicts that enhance the plot. From destructive flaws in their characterizations, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt are all consequently controlled by their weakness, therefore affecting the outcome of the play.
The position of trust that the families had given Friar Lawrence, he misused. This indicates that he didn?t really value that position of trust very much, because he proceeded in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet. When Friar Lawrence says ?In one respect I?ll thy assistant me for this alliance may so happy prove,? is the exact moment when the trust is broken because he has agreed to t marry the young lovers who were obviously too blinded by love to see the reality side of things. The Friar knew this, and he knew what was right, the fact that Romeo was incredibly impulsive and in love with being in love, and Juliet was naive enough to fall for him, but aside from that he gave in and made the wrong decision.
The deaths of Romeo and Juliet occur because of the crucial mistakes that Friar Lawrence makes. Friar Lawrence mishandles the situation by marrying the young couple that should not have been together. In addition, he has Juliet take his homemade concoction which ultimately leads to Romeo's and Juliet's actual deaths. Finally, he has a quarantined friar try to deliver a letter to Romeo about a secret plan that had been created by Juliet and him. Even though Friar Lawrence has good intentions and was just trying to help Romeo and Juliet, he ends up creating a huge problem that kills the young couple and devastates their families with sadness. The consequences far outweigh the good intentions. But, sometimes the people who are thought to be knowledgeable and trustworthy may turn out to be irresponsible and poor decision makers.
What makes a piece of literature relevant or irrelevant to a society? There have been many debates on the relevance about particular pieces of literature, especially old literature, in the modern day. Their relevance can be judged by how they address issues happening in society when they were written compared to those same issues today. It can also be judged on whether the themes present can apply to the modern day. And even if a story portrays issues that are either resolved or irrelevant today it can still have value on how it portrays human nature The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a relevant work for a person in modern times due to its themes on suicide, human recklessness, and violence and revenge.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence hastily thought up a plan to reunite Romeo and Juliet. It was poorly thought out and Lawrence neglected to think of the consequences that could take place if the plan should unfold as intended. Meanwhile, Fate seemed to have its way with the young couple, throwing numerous obstacles to get in the way of their love. It seemed as if Romeo and Juliet’s love was doomed from the very start. Due to these unfortunate circumstances and twisted chain of events, Friar Lawrence unwittingly worked in conjunction with Fate to bring about the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
