Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's tragic plays. It is about two star crossed lovers who commit suicide when their feuding families prevent them from being together. The play has many characters, each with his/her own role in keeping the plot line. Some characters do not have a great amount of lines, but have the plot revolving around them. Such a character is Friar Laurence. At first glance, one may overlook this character and dismiss him as only a minor player in the story of Romeo and Juliet. Upon closer examination, it becomes obvious that the Friar plays a crucial role in the development of the play. Throughout the play he attempts to guide young Romeo and Juliet through their struggles, and unwittingly causes their deaths.
Friar Laurence does just this in the passage I have chosen to analyse, Act IV scene i, lines 89-106. By now Romeo and Juliet are already secretly married, and Juliet has come crying to the Friar in hopes that he will devise a plan for her to get out of her predicament of being forced to marry Paris. Bring the sympathetic and paternal man that he is, cannot deny her request. And being the religious man that he is, he wants to find a way to avoid doubly marrying Juliet, so he helps her plan her "death". Here we see the control that Friar Laurence has over the events that occur.

scene, and gives the audience time to absorb what has occurred between. Romeo and Juliet. & nbsp; Juliet has an almost non-existent relationship with Capulet. Friar Laurence fills this void by portraying a father figure in Juliet s life. It is a good thing. She trusts him and confides in him regularly.
In William Shakespeare's tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence plays a major role. He makes not just one, but three fatal mistakes; he marries Romeo and Juliet, gives the potion to Juliet, and gets caught up in their love. Romeo and Juliet knew they could trust Friar Laurence because he was a priest, and he always did what was right. Since Friar Laurence was so quick to make decisions he made these three fatal mistakes, which is why he is most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
After Juliet freaks out after knowing that Romeo has been exiled from Verona, so she ends up going to the friar for advice therefore when she reaches the friar in sadness he has a plan to give Juliet a potion that will make her sleep for 3 days like she is ¨Dead” and by the time of her awaking Romeo will be there waiting for here to awake, in this he says, “Take thou this vial, being in bed and this distilled liquor drink thou off, when presently through ull veins shall run a cold and drowsy humour: for no pulse.” Without know what could happen or if the letter will ever reach romeo juliet agrees to do it as the friar clams “I'll send a friar with speed to Mantua, with my letters to thy lord.” And Juliet agrees, believing that Romeo will actually receive the letter and be waiting for by the time of her awaking, These all concluding personal choice, Questioning should've Juliet actually taken this potion or just moved on?
America, “The Land of the Free”, “The Home of the Brave”, “The Melting Pot”, “The Land of Milk and Honey”, “The Land Across the Pond”, “The Western World”, “Uncle Sam”, and most importantly “The Land of Opportunity”. America is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there is much more freedom in America than most other countries. There are no caste systems to limit what someone who is in America can do. Additionally an American’s destiny is created by his/her own choices, not the choices of his/her family or peers. America is a country founded by immigrants for immigrants, and although the Land of Opportunity has suffered an economic crisis in the last decade, it still maintains its reputation for being the greatest country in the world. The United States is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there are no caste systems, one’s destiny is made by his/her choices, and American freedoms are a part of everyday life.
Friar Laurence’s tragic flaw is being too overconfidence over his actions he planned. When Romeo comes over to friar’s cell for advice, he should’ve never tried to solve conflict between Capulet Family and Montague family. His plan was to change two families madness to love by marring Romeo, son of Montague and Juliet, daughter

Friar Laurence was once looked up to by both Romeo and Juliet, constantly telling them to act with more caution and restraint. In spite of this, he doesn't wait long to marry off these lovebirds. It has broken many hearts of the citizens in Verona and left many others
In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence has a major role. As a member of the Order of St. Francis, a group of wise and generous priests, Romeo and Juliet trusted Friar Laurence completely, turning to him for advice, and solutions. He was there throughout Romeo’s and Juliet's lives; he married them, came up with a plan to keep them together, and was a friend throughout their tragedies. However, Friar Laurence’s rash action in marrying Romeo and Juliet, his shortsighted plan for rescuing Juliet from an unwanted marriage to Paris, and his fear of committing sin all contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
Friar Laurence’s involvement in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet has caused a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet thought that they fell in love, but the Friar should have known that they were just kids and they were really rushing into things. In Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence says, “These violent delights have violent ends. Is loathsome in his own deliciousness, and in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately: long love doth so, too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.” When he says this, he is giving Romeo a warnin. Also, Friar Lawrence should have known at the time, that Romeo was loving with his eyes and not with his heart. For example, Romeo was in a relationship with Rosaline, before marrying Julliet. Inonclusion , the Friar did not have the expierence to know that they were kids.
Being one of the most debated texts in history, Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, has the power and ability to divide audiences. Throughout the play, it is seen that Shakespeare has left the audience to contemplate the underlying cause of the Romeo and Juliet tragedy. Shakespeare begins by showing the reckless actions and choices of the lovers, illustrating one of the main contributing factors to their deaths. Friar Lawrence plays a large role in the deaths of the lovers as he is the main instigator, greatly contributing to the deaths. Also, demonstrated through the play is that the lover’s destiny is written in the stars. Without
(IV, I, Lines 90-119). This bad advice, to give a girl a drink like death and tell her to run away, is only one of many immature actions Friar takes. Finally, Friar did not stay with Juliet after she frantically woke up, in a tomb, next to another diseased husband who was supposed to run away with her to Mantua. Instead he left saying, "Thy husband in thy bosom lies dead.... ...
Juliet receives a vial containing a potion from Friar Lawrence, who has a plan that will make Juliet appear as if she is dead, so that when she awakens, she will unite with Romeo. Juliet considers several consequences before drinking the potion, such as losing her sanity or being buried alive. Despite her reasoning, she summons the courage to drink the potion, exclaiming “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s to a drink.

There was a time when people communicated mainly through writing letters, talking on the phone, or speaking personally to others. Our communication capabilities and the dynamic of our social world has changed drastically with the introduction of electronics – especially cellular smartphones. In today’s world, hand-held cellular phones have transformed the way people communicate. While these devices have made us much more productive and efficient, they are causing our society to lose the important life skill of interpersonal communication. People can be seen everywhere fixating on their phones instead of interacting with others. Many are mesmerized by what they can do on their phones and are often seen using them while walking down the street, sitting at a restaurant during dinner, and even while driving. I believe cell phones are negatively impacting our society because they are harming our interpersonal skills, consuming our lives, and creating an imminent danger.
For centuries the belief that America is the land of opportunity has been spread through society by rich, white men. The vast majority of the population has been silenced through oppression. The history of America is stained with blood, and success is measured in body count. For some in society America might be considered the land of opportunity, but for them to succeed they must climb onto the backs of others. The oppression that exists in society from the 1500’s onward till today represents the blatant fallacies that exist in the statement “America is the land of opportunity.” Starting with the mistreatment of the Native Americans and then continuing onto the oppression and general practice of slavery, white men have been forcing themselves ahead of everyone else through immoral and selfish practices. In a way, yes; America is the land of opportunities, rich, white men can accomplish whatever they set their minds to with the help of those below them. The reality for the vast majority of americans is a world of oppression and suffering with no hope of success, so for that reason America as a whole is not the land of opportunity.
