All one wants in life is to feel safe and loved. When one feels safe and loved they become more stable in life. Adoption makes one feel loved and safe by giving a less fortunate child to a loving family. Sad as it may be, many people do not understand this about adoption and the impact it can make in a child’s life. Many people also do not understand what happens to children if they are not adopted, and the affects it has on society.One still needs to realize that adopting from the United States helps our society. By helping less fortunate children gain the grounds to live one their own and hold jobs, adopting from the United States can improve poverty and unemployment numbers. One needs to realize the importance of adoption, and be able to understand why the United States has adoption. Adoption needs to be clearly known for what it is and what really goes on in the system of adoption.
Adoption has been around for quite some time. In colonial days, an unofficial form of adoption was having an indentured servant. People would pay for a person to come to America to do work of the land. In exchange the owner would pay for the servant’s way to America. The indentured servant would then work for the owner for a set number of years then is free to do as one please. The servant would receive a room and live with the family that brought the servant to America. Another form of unofficial adoption was apprenticeship, where a young child would live with an adult to learn the tricks of the trade.
Both practices placed orphaned children with temporary families. There was some evidence of private adoption, but many cases did not appear until the nineteenth century, this is when orphanages started to appear. In fact some states started having ad...
