The best movie of 2014 was American Sniper, a biographical American war film that depicted the life of Chris Kyle; the most deadly marksman in U.S military history. The movie was loosely based on the memoir “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S Military History”. The movie was directed by Clint Eastwood and was written by Jason Hall. It opens with Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper, staring down the barrel of his gun with his eyes locked onto a young child who was given a weapon by his mother to use against an approaching American Convoy. Then there is a flash back to Chris getting a lesson from his father on how to shoot a riffle. This is where his true potential for marksmanship is recognized, but his real reason for joining the Navy S.E.A.L’s is not this. He was once a cowboy on the rodeo circuit with his brother Jeff Kyle, played by Keir O'Donnell , when the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened he realized that he must do something to not just protect his country, but his family as well. The movie represents every struggle that a veteran faces and not just them but their families. In the Huffington post, a student writer by the name of Nadia Karizat, highlighted a scene from the screenplay for American Sniper. It was where Chris Kyle and his wife attended the funeral of Mark; a fellow S.E.A.L. In the scene, Mark’s mother reads the last letter he wrote home:
“ Mother (at funeral): ‘...Glory, something some men chase and others find themselves stumbling upon, but not expecting to find...My question is when does glory fade away and become a wrongful crusade or an unjustified means by which consumes one completely. I’ve seen war and I’ve seen death’
