The American Dream provides a uniformed idea of a goal that is seldomly achieved. It includes having a successful job, a healthy family, and happiness achieved through hard work and determination. Those born and raised well with strict parents often attain the American Dream, but those raised with abusive parents that live separately often find the American Dream extremely difficult to achieve. However, this idealistic stereotype can be false. Surprisingly, in the book In Cold Blood by capote' class='brand-secondary'>Truman Capote the American Dream poses as a difficulty to maintain and achieve by the Clutter family, Perry Smith, Dick Hickock, and Floyd Wells. He dreams of becoming “a treasure hunter in the tropics” () in Mexico. He wants to achieve this goal but he cannot do so due to his monetary deficits and the robbery he partook in failed miserable that costed four lives. His ticket to the American Dream eventually shifted to his death. In addition, Perry was subjected for a psychological evaluation because he may have been potentially a paranoid schizophrenic. He was an inmate with Dick Hickock in the Kansas State Penitentiary who originally gave Dick the idea of robbing the Clutter family because he worked there before. Hence, Floyd instructed Dick the layout of the Clutter’s house and told him that the Clutter’s kept a safe that had ten thousand dollars. For that reason Dick and Perry organized a robbery and promised to not spare any witness and Floyd was the reason they got caught since Floyd snitched on them.
