The statue of a man who resembles the physical appearance of God leaves many to wonder the power and strength of such a person. Who can this god-like person be? What did he do to deserve to be portrayed in such an honorable way in the Greek society in the fourth century B.C? This statue is of a man named Alexander III of Macedon or more commonly known as, Alexander the Great. His father, King Phillip II, took the throne of Macedonia in 359 B.C.E and was able to turn Macedonia into the strongest military power in the entire Greek world. Macedonia was a state in the north eastern region of Greece. Alexander III of Macedon was born in 356 B.C.E in Pella; the ancient capital of Macedonia, Alexander grew up in the shadow of his father’s success in transforming Macedonia into a great military power. As his father tried to end the rivalries between city-states in Greece in order to unite in a war against Persia, Alexander was being tutored by Aristotle and had been a part of military campaigns. His father, more so, raised his son to become a great leader which is no wonder why when King Phillip II was assassinated and Alexander III of Macedon took the throne. Alexander the Great was able to succeed by his military strategies which change the demographics of the conquered nations during his reign in 336-323 B.C.E.
Alexander the Great has been considered for centuries as a military genius and influenced conquerors such as Hannibal the Carthaginian, the Romans Pompey, Caesar and Napoleon. Although, he inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army, Alexander was capable to display his leadership and military capabilities. Alexander began his military campaign and his rule much where his father left off. Whether or not it was his aim, this created a sense of normality for the men that was part of his father’s regime. Alexander’s position as a warrior-king who stood side-by-side among his men also served to create respect among his peers. Gradually, as Alexander conquered more Persian land, he began to adopt the policies of Persian rulers. Alexander’s change in policy extended beyond just political roles, he gave consideration to the local gods in many of the lands that he conquered. Eventually, Alexander brought people in from the conquered nations to serve under him.

Alexander The Great was a very influential person in history. The reason that he is so recognized is because of how much he achieved at a young age. When he was a child, his father, Philip II of Macedon employed Aristotle, the famous philosopher to teach Alexander strategy, math and art as well as chess. By the time he was 20 he was extremely educated and really good at chess. When his Father was assassinated in 336 B.C.E, Alexander took his place in the army and started his conquest of much of the early world. Alexander was great because of his leadership, Integrity and courage.
Alexander the Great was only 20 years when his father Philip of Macedon died. Even though he was a young man, he had an unusual talent for politics and military tactics. After his father’s death, Alexander moved to continue Philip’s invasion of Persia. In the ten years of his war campaigns, Alexander conquered a large portion of the then-known world. Have you heard of a man named Alexander the Great, the famous historical figure? There are many amazing stories about him explaining the courageous things he had accomplished. However, if you learn more about him and his accomplishments you will soon realized the real person Alexander was. Alexander the Great, ruler of his empire was in fact not great as his title states. The definition of great is a person who shows concern for others, has leadership and shows intelligence. Alexander didn’t show any of these characteristics therefore he doesn’t deserve the title of “great”.
Alexander’s Empire fell apart so quickly after his death because the Macedonians, among others, were disloyal to Alexander, Alexander’s many devastating flaws of treating his enemies along with his friends with no mercy, and the excellent, unique, and powerful way of Alexander’s ruling represents an extremely difficult challenge of replacement.
In the countries who believed Alexander was the son of the devil or the devil himself, will say he is not ‘great’ but a demon who did evil. The countries who were on his side would say he was the greatest conqueror to live. He began as a Macedonian cavalry commander at eighteen, king of Macedonia at twenty, conqueror of Persia at twenty-six and explorer of India at thirty [Foner and Garraty]. The amount of large scale accomplishments he managed to finish in a span of six years is astonishing. Alexander’s tomb was the largest tourist attraction in the ancient world. Alexander the Great is hailed, by most historians, as “The Great Conqueror” of the world in the days of ancient Mesopotamia. “Alexander III of Macedon, better known as Alexander the Great, single-handedly changed the nature of the ancient world in little more than a decade. Alexander was born in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia in July 356 BCE. His parents were Philip II of Macedon and his wife Olympias. Philip was assassinated in 336 BCE and Alexander inherited a powerful yet volatile kingdom. He quickly dealt with his enemies at home and reasserted Macedonian power within Greece. It is important to note, which will maybe explain his brutal actions, that Alexander was only twenty years old when he became the king of Macedonia. “When he was 13, Philip hired the Greek philosopher Aristotle to be Alexander’s personal tutor. Born on July 20, 356 B.C. in Pella Macedonia, Alexander the Great, Conqueror of the Persian Empire and King of Macedonia, is one of the most famous men in history and is believed to be one of the ultimate military prodigies of all times (History of Macedonia, 2013). Alexander was the son to King Phillip II of Macedonia, Queen Olympus, and brother to Cleopatra. Alexander seldom saw his father growing up as he was heavily involved in long military crusades. His father was quite successful in transforming Macedonia into a military power, although his absence formed a deep resentment from Alexander (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2015). When Alexander was 16, King Phillip II gathered a large Macedonian army and invaded Thrace, an area in Southeast Europe that borders Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria.
