Al Capone was born in Brooklyn, New York, January 17, 1899. His parents, Teresina Capone and Gabriel Capone, immigrated from Italy to America in search of a better life. Capone lived a normal childhood; although, his parents were poverty-stricken. Teresina was a seamstress, and Gabriel was a barber. For income, they did not have much which made it difficult to raise a family; especially, a family with nine children. Al was considered a good student. During 1909, Johnny left Brooklyn for Chicago in search of more work. Al and Torrio remained friends. And since Johnny left, Al was now working in factories as a paper cutter. Capone still would hang out with other gangs, but he was not a part of any gang activity. In 1917, Torrio introduced Capone to Frankie Yale. Frankie Yale was a Brooklyn mobster. After meeting, Frankie employed Al as a bartender and bouncer at the Harvard Inn. While working there, Capone earned the nickname ‘Scarface.’ One night Al made derogatory and offensive remarks towards a woman. For the remarks, the woman’s brother punched Al, and then the brother slashed Capone’s face. Thereafter three noticeable scars decorated Capone’s face thus earning him the name
