-The incentives of party affiliation and electoral processes - In all democracies, citizens get together and choose their leaders through organized elections. Usually the process is deliberated between members of parties that embody a set of values around which average citizens center their beliefs depending on what these are. However, not all parties look or act the same in different types of political systems or even within the same one. Some are inclusive to those interested in joining them others are exclusive to a certain type of voter. In the first place, their composition has an impact on the degree of consistency of the party system and on the government’s ability to reflect the voter’s needs. Furthermore, they shape public policy and the behavior and incentives of political actors. Whether politicians depend directly on voters, as in a presidential system, or on their parties, as in a parliamentary system, to climb the political ladder, to whom they are most accountable to is mostly dependant on the procedure that elects them to office. The way they might allocate public resources to connect them with their constituents and even the sort of incentives there may be for corruption and/or electoral abandonment also depend on the political system in place. In a presidential system the relationship that exists between that of the voter and the candidates is that of a dynamic equilibrium where politicians who have a certain standing for “good government” appeal to voters, so that they would reject a current one who might have lost that reputation in favor of one they believe hasn’t. Through this process voters are able to bring to attention a slew of issues they believe are important or strike down policy they don’t particularly care for by putting into power a politician they believe will fight on their
