Achilles is a name that lives on, he is known as a Greek hero in his time. The term hero is defined slightly different in modern time then what it was defined in the Greek time period. Yes, I would consider Achilles a hero of his time, but not of modern time.
In Greek a hero is someone who has great courage and is strong. Someone who is legendary, and celebrated for their brave accomplishments. Achilles was a fearless man, he fought for his name to be remembered. His name was remembered. Achilles fought men who were double his size, if not more. He was known for winning his battles, and that is why he was called upon to fight great battles. He was a hero to the Greek. He was a strong leader, and he was also immortal (besides his heel). He was a hero to the Greek because he sacrificed his life, literally. His mother had the ability to tell him his future and he had a choice to live a long life with a loving wife and beautiful children, or fight in the Trojan was and die. He knew he was going to die, and he still chose to be a part of the Trojan wars. He had outstanding abilities and was the best fighter on the Greek side, which is also something that made him a hero to the Greek. …show more content…

This is one of the many reasons he is not a modern hero, his intentions weren't necessarily for the good of the people. He fought for his own self desire. In the trojan war he fought on Agamemnon's side, but he didn't do it because he felt he was a great king. He didn't fight for the good of the people, his intentions weren't to fight for a king or the Greek because it was a desire in his heart. He fought in the Trojan war because he knew it was going to be a wat that was to be remembered, and he wanted his name to be a part of
