Academic Probation Essay

I am writing today to appeal my academic probation status so that I may continue receiving the Pell Grant for my studies. I have had an obvious stumble in my beginnings with FAU but I am certain that with steps I've taken this summer I will be back on track to a good academic standing while completing my bachelor's degree. After withdrawing from two classes this past spring I dropped below the 67% required completion rate. Despite this, I persisted and paid for a summer class myself. I also withdrew from this second-attempt class. The abysmal completion rate I’ve begun this year with is the result of my failed year of college in 2001. It is something that I began dealing with in the last two years while in school and it has had a strong effect on me. Unfortunately, my reaction was to ignore this problem and persist through my studies. I am no longer ignoring my hearing damage. I am now consulting with an ENT/audiologist and working with FAU accessibility office. I have also recently learned that there is an audiologist on the FAU campus and I'm looking forward to meeting with them. I have put a great deal of thought into this decision and, despite the fact that I had my heart set on engineering, I feel that I can be successful, motivated, and happy within this new field. I spent some time researching the anthropology degree and have taken the steps to join the College of Arts and Letters for the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology. I have chosen a set of two classes and a lab for the fall semester. I believe this schedule should be challenging while remaining a lower-pressure start to my work with the Anthropology Department.
