Thunder and Prey compare and contrast
Accidents. Accidents happen all the time. They could be tragic or just something we forget about. In the two stories “A sound of thunder” and “Being Prey” accidents happen that are for the worse, and will forever be remembered. One way they are similar and different are there themes of the two stories. In the story “Being Prey” the stories theme is more of a specific theme to a specific situation. One reason this is true is because in the story Plum wood did not take notice of directions, and in turn she was harmed and wounded. One way she didn’t pay attention was when the guide had told her to not get out of the boat and she did it multiple times. Like when she said “I pulled over to tip water from the canoe”. So a possible theme for that story is “Be more meticulous to what you act upon because you never know the potential outcome “. Yes it’s possible, this could be directed in many situations but not the great amount that “A sound of Thunder” has. A possible theme for “A sound of Thunder” could be “In the present day you have no clue what the futures going to be like, so don’t do foolish things to make it worse”. And as you can tell I believe this theme applies to almost every situation and almost everybody. Don’t take that in the wrong way though, the stories themes are also very similar. They both could apply to almost all situations, weather they are hard or easy for example in the story “being Prey “if Eckels was to think of the two themes, he might not be in this senseless situation .Another possible way the two stories are similar and different in there conflicts. In the story “Being Prey” the conflict was when the main character, Plum wood could not get herself out of the crocodile’s death grasp. The conflict in “A sound of thunder “was when Eccles stepped on the butterfly. The conflicts are different because the crocodile had harmed the main character and in “A sound of thunder” the main character wounded the animal. That was one way they were different. I found in the three short stories that I read “The Foghorn”, “Sound of Thunder” and “All in a Summer Day” had three common “similarities”. First each of the stories I read had a sense of fear. In the sound of thunder story Eckles saw the tyrannosaurs and he experienced fear because he was so scared of the dinosaur. Also in the fog horn the characters turned the fog horn off and the monster had thought it was its friend and was being betrayed and attacked which scared the characters because they thought it would kill them. And in the last story I read all in a summer day the little girl was scared that the sun might not come and it would continue to rain for the next seven years. The beginnings of the stories are also similar: Little Red?s mother sends her to grandmother?s house because the grandmother is ill. Both stories mention that Little Red is personable, cute, and sweet. This is something that, on initial inspection, seems irrelevant but holds a deeper meaning for the symbolism behind the story. In both stories, the wolf, wandering through the woods, comes on Little Red and asks where she is going. When Little Red responds that she is going to visit her sick grandmother, the wolf distracts her with the suggestion that she should pick some flowers so that he can get to her grandmother?s house first. The wolf arrives at Little Red?s grandmother?s house before Little Red and disguises his voice in order to be let in. When he is let into the house, he promptly devours the grandmother and disguises himself in her clothes in order to eat Little Red as well. At this point, the two narratives diverge.

In this short story Alcee and Calixta both come to realization of how good they have things with their spouses and how that they already found the ones that they love, which weren't each other. This made me aware of how we as people can take things for granted or believing we know what’s best for us. In reality we don't always know what’s best until something occurs and shows us that what we already have is the best.

If nothing else, this novel gives the complete aspect of each character's mind and personality. This background, together with a believable plot, convincing characterization, and important literary devices, enables William Faulkner in The Sound and the Fury to develop the theme of the regression of the family. The only purpose of this theme is to make the story seem more tragic. Faulkner makes no attempt to reform the characters in the book, which gives the reader the impression that the characters are condemned by their environment and heredity. In turn, it makes any attempt at improvement in real life seem useless. He succeeds in making The Sound and the Fury notorious with ill-fated, hopeless, and irredeemable characters. Even though the book is filled with grave adversity, it is worthwhile because of the memorable characters and the author's unique style of writing.
In conclusion, these stories are very similar in many ways. Out of all the themes that could be used to compare the two, the most important ones are hatred, manipulation and hatred. Hatred is disliking some one or something and there are many characters that dislike each other. Manipulation is using your creativity to come up with a way to get someone to believe something that is not true. Lastly, jealousy, which is wanting something that someone else has and doing things to get it which is what Iago did in the play and Fernand did in the movie.
