One of the most astounding autobiography ever rread was writtine by a man, for who a large portion of his life he could not read or write, it written by a man who actually accompus the americna dream. A man who litteraly pull himself up by the boot straps, in a rags to riches type tale. This man, is Fredrick douglass, born a man, made a slave, but died a man. Fedick odulgass is an American slave who was able to account the plife of a slave.He gave us a glimpse into the life of slave, during a sad era of ameirca history. He also gave us a glimpse on to how overcome, not just slavery but and situation. In the text Fredrick douglass writes “You have seen how a man was made a slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man” (Norton 546). Here he makes clear distintion that he knew when he was a slave and he knew when he was man, but what is a slave? What is a man? And how did he make this transition from slave, man to free man? In the folloeing text I will define his assemsnt of slave and man and describe how he was able to become a man; a Free man.
In this story there are 2 types of slavery; slavery of the mind and slavery of the body. Through the text Douglass is seen to overcome the enslavement of the mind but knew the enslavement of the body was what he
Still, no one help him out then himself. Yes, in the story countless of black and espeailly white people help grant Douglass a “real” freedom, but many of slaves were in the same postion as douglass yet only one has an autobiography. This proves that not only was it a diffucluty task but it was possible to be free, to obtain freedom. Fredrick douglass also made this realization when he freed his mind. Through freeing his minf of ingornace by way of teaching himself to read, write and work, he was able to become a man. This gave him the skills to free hs body, to where he eventually was able to become a free
