One of the most interesting things William Faulkner used in “A Rose for Emily” was how you really didn’t know who was telling the story about Emily. Going over several events that happened in Emily life William Faulkner set up images that Emily was hiding something. Emily is considered a fallen monument throughout the story. Emily behavior throughout the story symbolized some type of mental illness. Emily was delusional at times to what seemed real to her and was actually reality. Emily yearned for love and affection after her father died and she had no one. Emily was an only child to Mr. Grierson. Her father had turned away every young man that tried to get next to Emily which left her all alone. Emily was convincing herself that her father was still alive which conveyed a like for the dead. Homer was the only man Emily loved since her father passing and for that the town had some type of sympathy for Emily. All of sudden Emily stopped giving china painting lessons to townspeople children and became secluded in her home. You would only see her servant in and out the house when he ran errands to the market. No one in the town dared to question Miss Emily about anything. The reader could see that town was more so nosey than actually concerned about Emily well being or even Homer at that because he was seen entering the home and was never seen again. The women of the town grew concerned of Emily behavior and had the minister wrote Emily’s family to come see about her well being. Emily portrayed that she had her life and everything in order. Emily didn’t come off as dangerous to any one or harm others. Throughout the story Emily psychological state of mind was questioned and it was unclear if she was a threat to the town or a danger to
