It was a warm summer day; the sun was shining brightly, .and Anna decided to have some rest. She really needed to have a good rest, because she wanted to look good when meeting her friend Joanna. After having a nap in a hammock, she was ready to spend a great time with her best friend. Anna put her best dress on and went to the station, to meet Joanna hor the fort time. Despite the fact that the girls were very close, Anna had never seen her friend, because Joanna was her pen friend. They were both daydreamers, thus, didn’t use the internet for communication; they only used paper, envelopes, and pens. It was a day that changed Anna’s life, and she couldn’t even imagine, how and with whom will she spend it. When thinking about their meeting, Anna was completely sure that she will recognize Johanna from the first sight. However, she was not feeling so confident while standing on the platform, number three and waiting for the train to arrive. She never saw the photo of Joanna, because they decided that the appearance is not important. Thus, the only information she had, was that Joanna will appear with a big, red suitcase. While she was waiting, the time was flowing very slowly, and Anna was trying to imagine how her friend would look like. When it was half past two, the train finally arrived. Anna was doing her best to see the young, teenage girl, who was carrying a red suitcase. However, she couldn’t find her, so she decided make an announcement, for Joanna to find her. But, when she turned back to go and do it, she saw a young girl, with a huge suitcase. Anna had no doubt that it was Joanna. She came closer, and asked the girl about her name. The young girl told she was Joanna, and Anna also introduced herself. The girl smiled an... ... middle of paper ... ... their way were talking to each other. The girls understood that they were quite alike each other. It was so interesting to talk, that they almost missed their stop. When they entered the railway waiting room they smiled to each other, because they the two girls, who were talking with each other in a very friendly way, one of them was carrying a big red suit case. They came closer and the two girls smiled at them, everything became clear at one movement. All the teenagers decided to go to café to talk with each other, and to find out more about the funny situation, they got in. It was a great idea, because they had a great time there. And since then the four girls became a close friends. They always remember that day, and laugh when talking about the red suitcase, which was highly popular at that time. But, there is no doubt; it was a day, which changed Anna’s life.
When Marie tries to ask the protagonist to take a walk, this action shows that she is trying to achieve Pauline’s dream by getting her outside of the house. Therefore, she could finally feel the true meaning of freedom. Nevertheless, Pauline’s mother’s response demonstrates that she wants her daughter’s safety more than anything. The mother tries to keep Pauline away from the danger, so the protagonist can at last have a healthier life. However, Agathe’s reply shows that her mother is willing to sacrifice Pauline’s dream to keep her secure. Therefore, the author uses contrasting characters to mention that safety is more valuable. Furthermore, the protagonist starts to describe Tante Marie and reveals that she always has her hair “around her shoulder” (85). When Pauline describes Marie, Pauline shows how her Tante is open-minded. In fact, Marie helps Pauline to let go of her limitations and to get a taste of her dream. On an ordinary day, Leslie opens the main door of her house, when she walked inside she saw her mom and sister Islla sitting on the coach. Islla was crying, and Leslie ask her “What happened?’ Why you crying?’”. Islla told her that she is pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby even if her boyfriend will be against the baby, but she will need to drop out from her University. In a few minutes of thinking, Leslie decided and told her sister “You don’t need to drop out I will help you to babysit with my nephew.”
Each one complimented the other and it was as if they were two halves of one whole. Like many things in life, they each secretly enjoyed the immediate surroundings of the other. As much as Nel regarded the neatness of her house with dread, Sula felt the house to be comfortable and relished the neatness. They are energetic and ready to have fun; however their adventures force them to mature. They have different journeys and experiences, but they ultimately get the same outcome which is an increase in maturity. These experiences allow the two girls to discover their true identities.
Finally, even though, for a long time, the roles of woman in a relationship have been established to be what I already explained, we see that these two protagonists broke that conception and established new ways of behaving in them. One did it by having an affair with another man and expressing freely her sexuality and the other by breaking free from the prison her marriage represented and discovering her true self. The idea that unites the both is that, in their own way, they defied many beliefs and started a new way of thinking and a new perception of life, love and relationships.
