Johannes Kepler is a famous mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer of the Scientific Revolution during the seventeenth century. Kepler has made some very important contribution to the fields of astronomy and mathematics. Without him we might not have made some discoveries until much later. He is one of the most important scientists of the Scientific Revolution. Johannes Kepler made some important contributions to astronomy and had some incredible works and accomplishments all due to his early developed love for science.
To begin, the early life of Johannes Kepler plays a big role in his development to love science. Kepler was born on December 27, 1571 in Weil der Stadt, Württemberg in Germany. He had two brothers and one sister. His mother was Katharina Guldenmann and his father was Heinrich Kepler, who is believed to have died in the Eighty Years’ War. His mother was an innkeeper's daughter, was a healer and herbalist, and she was tried for witchcraft. Kepler was born prematurely and so as a child he was very sickly. When he was young he got chicken pox and that gave him weak vision and crippled hands. On top of this his family was very poor. He was introduced to astronomy early and developed a love for it. He had observed a few astronomical events at an early age, which surely contributed to his love for it. He naturally understood mathematics very well starting at a young age and impressed many people with his mathematical abilities. For example, “he often impressed travelers at his grandfather's inn with his phenomenal mathematical faculty” (Johannes kepler: Early Years, n.d.). It is heavily believed that Leonardo da Vinci led the scientific revolution. Although most people know him as an artist, many fail to realize he played a much more important role in the Renaissance than just that. When he started the scientific revolution it revolutionized how scientists did their research and it’s an impact that still exists
Isaac Newton was a British Mathematician and Philosopher. He published his most acclaimed book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. He is also credited with the discovery of the essential theories of calculus alongside with Gottfried Leibniz, he also discovered the binomial theorem among many other accomplishments. He was of being one of the greatest minds in the 17th century scientific revolution.

While under house arrest he died and was forgiven much later about this astronomy work by another Pope in the future which was emend. As a lifetime being a scientist he linked physics and astronomy with math, made a book of freedom of the scientific inquiry called Discourses and Mathematical Demonstrations Relating to Two New Sciences, and correctly defined uniform acceleration. He also set forth laws of falling bodies, devolved the mathematical theory of projectile motion, expressed numerous ideas about sound, heat, and light, the relation of mathematics to physics, role of experiment, and the problems of infinite signals in analysis of matter and motion (Drake par 1).
“I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn't learn something from him” (qtd. in “Nothing But the Facts About Galileo Galilei”). This was the adage that Galileo lived by. He consistently made it his purpose to understand and decipher the world for himself, and there was not a single person in the world that he was incapable of learning something from. During his youth, Galileo’s father had wanted him to study medicine in order to make a profitable living; at this urging, Galileo attended a medical university, but almost failed and ended up leaving without a degree. During his time at the university, however, he did make his first (and one of his most important) discoveries. He found that the period of each swing of a pendulum was exactly the same. This would come to be known as the law of the pendulum and would provide the basis for the regulation of clocks. His pet door was somewhat revolutionary as well, and it is an invention currently still used by millions today. Newton was an idol of success and proof that hard work and passion equals greatness. He also proved that anything is possible, even with restrictions.
His discoveries and theories, although at the time were thought of as unorthodox, proved to be most meaningful to modern science today. Johannes Kepler was a Mathematician and an Astronomer in the late 1500’s into the early 1600’s. He studied the algorithms of Astronomy from the age of 15 to the end of his life. With the accomplishments he had he has changed the way we study the solar system. He was a man of integrity and didn’t give up when trying something. He used the talent he was given to serve and please God.
Later, after Newton's mother had returned to him upon the death of her second husband, Sir Isaac Newton's passion for science and mathematics was ignited. This happened as a result of his mother's plan to take him out of school and make him a farmer, a occupation which he thought was pitiful because of his many failures. He later returned to school to finish his education (deciding to glorify and share Jesus through science) and, after having his uncle successfully persuade his mother, enrolled at the University of Cambridge.
He was a mathematician and astronomer, among other things. Sobel mentions in her book that Newton gave written insight to the Board of Longitude about his thoughts on the problem of longitude. Another scientist of the Scientific Revolution that we studied was Galileo. Galileo was the astronomer that proposed a method of calculating longitude using the “eclipses of the moons of Jupiter” (Sobel 25). It is evident that some of the scientists we have studied in this course, played a role in solving the longitude problem.
His greatest contribution to the Renaissance and the world is the heliocentric model of the solar system. Copernicus book, On the Revolution of Heavenly Spheres is thought of as the most important book ever published in the field of astronomy. This book lead to the Copernican Revolution. During the Copernican Revolution their was a lot of interests in astronomy. Every astronomer who came after him was influenced by his theories.
Galileo used this great invention to report astronomical facts such as the moon is cover with craters instead of being smooth, the Milky Way is composed of millions of stars, and Jupiter have four moons. Perhaps the most famous discovery is the Earth revolves around the Sun and the Earth is not the center of the universe (even though he was discredited at the time).
Another important individual who drove history was the Italian astronomer and scientist Galileo Galilei. Galileo discovered something so important that it changed the selfish perspective that humans were the center of the universe and led to the growth of human knowledge. Utilizing mathematics and a telescope he had developed, Galileo observed that the planets revolved around the sun and not the Earth. This was a significant discovery because not only did it contradict what the church had taught, it also showed that the universe was not what it seemed. With this truth uncovered, many people began to fascinate over the universe. This triggered people to begin studying space extensively and eventually lead to present day space exploration. Galileo also left a lasting impression upon many great minds, such as Sir Isaac Newton, who used Galileo's research and theories to further his own studies such as the physical laws, and their properties.
Over the years, there have been many more important figures in astronomy. One extraordinary astronomer was Galileo Galilei, who invented the first refractor telescope in which light is bent to enlarge an image of the sky (“Galileo Project”). The next great astronomer to follow him was Isaac Newton. Newton had made a great amount of contributions to astronomy during his life. He further proved that the Earth was not the center of the universe and he also invented the Newtonian reflector telescope which is still used today in observatories.
Galileo was probably the greatest astronomer, mathematician and scientist of his time. In fact his work has been very important in many scientific advances even to this day.
Nicholaus Copernicus is one of the most well known astronomers of all time. He is even labeled as the founder of modern astronomy for the proposition of his heliocentric theory (“Nicolaus Copernicus”, Scientists: Their Lives and Works). The heliocentric theory was revolutionary for Copernicus’ time.
