You do not choose to be born into this world. You are not in full control of what will happen when you arrive or who will give birth to you and raise you. A generation one poet by the name of William Blake is highly interested in poetry. He is so fascinated that he writes two songs; Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Songs of innocence being the poetry that is about younger generations of people that may appear naive, inexperienced, or childlike. He wrote multiple poems that fell into the Songs of Innocence relating to child life and the way things work. The most enticing poem William Blake wrote in my opinion is Infant Sorrow.

I hear more often than not how many people want to have kids and I question if they really want to bring them into this cruel world. I had a short conversation with a friend once who stated that he did not want to have kids because he is scared of what could happen to them once they were in this world. I just sat there and stared at him and really did not want to talk about it any more because I thought that it was a stupid excuse, but now that I have read this poem I think differently. I find myself thinking that someday I would really like to have a family and have children, but now I question if that would be the best idea to bring them here with the way society is. “ My mother groaned! My father wept. Into the dangerous world I leapt. Helpless, naked, piping loud; Like a fiend hid in a cloud” (lines 1 through 4) He went into the world knowing it was dangerous and his parents were just sad of what was to come. It is not your average birth fantasy.

Clearly, William Blake is a great poet for his time and truly makes you question the ways of life. I think I would like to read the rest of the poetry with is within The Songs of Innocence. The poem titled Infant Sorrow makes me question how many people truly are regretful for bringing children into this world. It also shows how much parents can care about their children. The poem also states how cruel and unusual the world around us
