Course work 2: 9/11 It was a typically beautiful September morning. The sky was a peaceful baby blue, there wasn't a cloud in sight, the smell of coffee was wafting through the flat as we opened our sleepy eyes. I looked over at her and thought again just how lucky I was to be with this beautiful creature. We had our breakfast together and got ready for work just like we always do, she left her makeup everywhere as usual; I nearly broke my ankle on a rogue lip gloss. After discussing our plans for the day, we headed to get a taxi to the towering buildings that cut the skyline in two like a pair of scissors, The World Trade Centre which was home to our respective offices. As the taxi pulled up to the kerb a wall of noise slapped me in the …show more content…
Suddenly there was a weird rumbling sound; her office block shook violently and thick black smoke started to billow out of a gaping wound in the side of the building. In a split second her face was filled with horror. Several people screaming hysterically ‘A PLANE HAS HIT THE NORTH TOWER!!!'. I felt faint as sweat started pouring out of my body. I had to get her! My hands shook as I fumbled desperately in my pocket for my phone I finally managed to but my fingers couldn’t find the buttons, I somehow managed to call her. The phone rang for what seemed like an eternity; my knees gave way as she finally answered. My heart beating rapidly, I pulled myself up onto my feet and stumbled to the window. She was gone! Where the hell is she? She was there a second ago; from behind her desk she stood up and looked at me. She appeared ghostly, amongst the chaos of her office. I knew that she’d be shaking like a leaf, so fragile. I had to reassure her. How could I do that? After forever, her voice shook ‘James what's happening? It felt like there was an earthquake, but your building isn't moving, so what the hell has
Imagine walking up on the scene of that fateful day of 9/11 knowing absolutely nothing apart from the talk around you, seeing the black smoke accumulating around the World Trade Centers, hearing the blare of sirens as the police cars accelerate by. Thomas Beller knew what all those things felt like. He was a simple pedestrian riding his bike going about his everyday life when he saw the black smoke, heard the sirens, and felt the whip of the police cars speeding by. Beller had no clue what was going on when he approached the scene, but in his personal narrative “The Ashen Guy” he explains his recollection of what he experienced on that historical day. Beller uses tones such as chaotic, nervous, confused, and worry to illustrate a picture of what it was like for him to approach the World Trade Center.
September 11th 2001 was a monstrosity of a day filled with intense fear, heightened anxiety, and blood curdling screams. The Twin Towers, located in lower Manhattan, New York, were demolished by plane hijackers involved with the group Al-Qaeda. Two skyscrapers that had once seemed to reach for the clouds, now crumbled into dust. This series of events caused world-wide attention, and September 11th will be forever memorialized each year across the United States. Because of this new altitude resulting from this terrorist attack, many writers were motivated to illustrate the actions in their own way to explain their points of view on that bleak day. The authors conveyed the series of events with different attitudes, vocabulary, and writing styles. For instance, “9/11 Attacks” and “Leap” by Brian Doyle are two
September 11th, 2001 is one of the worst days in the United States of America’s history by far. It all began at 8:45am when a stolen airplane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Many people believed that this was...

My first paragraph i'm going to talk about what happened that day September 11, 2001. There were two planes that crashed into the twin towers. They left from Boston International Airport to Los Angeles. The first plane crashed at 9:03 Am. And then at 9:59 Am it collapses. At 10:28 Am they hit the other tower. There was one plane that crashed into the pentagon. The time that the plane hit the pentagon was at 10:53 Am. And there was one plane that crashed in a Pennsylvania field. They were
It took me a second to come back to reality, and then I exited the elevator. I glanced over to my right to see a never-ending line of people waiting anxiously to see what was going to happen next. Suddenly, the long line began to maneuver forward until everyone reached the end of the hall. I noticed a vast screen directly in front of me and then various images of New York began to appear on the screen. Then, dramatically, the screen lifted to reveal a panoramic view of the entire city. I watched in awe as everyone’s eyes filled up with tears, including myself. It was an incredible sight that simply took my breath away. A guide directed everyone through a set of doors onto a massive observation deck. Through the crystal clear floor to ceiling windows, I looked below and saw the twin reflecting pools at the original site of the Twin Towers. In addition, I also had the opportunity to see the Statue
As daylight broke, I awoke to the sound of my ringing phone. It was the boss. I knew so because of the specific ring tone in case he ever needed to call me. The sun irritated my eyes, I felt more tired than ever. I answered the phone.
I ran to the ambulance looking for Olivia, but I couldn't find her anywhere. I went looking for her all day long, but I didn't see any sign of her. I went to almost every hospital looking and again there was no sign of her. I had been looking for her all day, and there wasn't anywhere I could find her. I was looking for my phone I couldn't find it anywhere it must of fallen out of my pockets during my search
I woke up really early in the morning, I was frustrated and I couldn’t do anything, because it was a weekend, and I didn’t get enough sleep. I was worried about the science test grade, and I got paranoid moreover it was killing me. Thinking about it was really hard, so I started making a plan. How can I get in the school, go to the principal’s office, shut down the cameras, and change my grades. Well that will take a lot of thinking and sneaky moves, because I am really good at doing that.
My eyes were welcomed by the sour, dull color of grey on an early morning. I opened my eyes and just started seeing things clearly when I realized it was 11:30 A.M.! So much for that early morning... What was I going to do? I had a doctor's appointment at 9:00, I was supposed to start work at 6:30, and I had a car appointment at 11:00!
A routine patrol set out on a sunny day. The towers started receiving alerts from the flight leader that the crew was lost. They reported their compasses were malfunctioning and that everything “looked wrong.” This forced them to fly around until they ran out of gas. The same day, a rescue plane carrying 13 men also disappeared, another one bites the dust.
Once the Twin Towers were the place to be, But now they were crumbling for the whole world to see. Two passenger planes had crashed, Leaving the rest of the world, aghast. Today was just a regular a day in New York, it was 80oF and the sky was as blue as a sapphire- not a cloud in the sky, it was illustrious. I promenaded around the city streets, whilst taking in all the scents of the pretzels, the shiny rocks fumes and the most importantly of all, the hot dog stand.
The only thing in my mind when we left was, why did he lie to me. Hannah screamed in surprise when my tiny head peeked around the corner announcing that I had found her. She shot up past me like a bullet, determined to get away from me and my tiny legs. I giggled chasing her around our room trying to catch her. “You’ll never catch me!”
As we turned the corner on Broadway at St. Paul's Chapel, we caught our first glimpse of the American Express Building. We both froze instantly. Standing but a stone's throw away, the floors where Aaron had been working looked like they had suffered repeated mortar attacks. Between us and the WFC, the twin towers once stood. Now their absence had become an overwhelming presence.
I fell asleep until my cell phone woke me up, it was already five. With my eyes closed, I tried to reach the gadget which lay on the side table. Idly, I spread out my eyes, but it wasn't my phone that rang. I have almost forgotten about Caroline’s phone which still dwelled in my pants’ pocket. When I took a look, the call was already hung up. So I scrolled down for the number of the missed call and tried to reach it using my phone. Something somehow thrilled me when the number I dialled is actually Carrie’s number. It was her who call the phone, but whose phone is this? Possibly she has two phones… my brain told me. It's nothing weird about having two phones, they have even three. Anyway, for some reason, I voided my intention to call Caroline, instead I set out to run through the second phone of hers. Came to my idea to have her second number, and so I dialled my own number from the phone. I smiled after I deleted the number I dialled, proceeding to my phone, to save her number.
