Course work 2: 9/11 It was a typically beautiful September morning. The sky was a peaceful baby blue, there wasn't a cloud in sight, the smell of coffee was wafting through the flat as we opened our sleepy eyes. I looked over at her and thought again just how lucky I was to be with this beautiful creature. We had our breakfast together and got ready for work just like we always do, she left her makeup everywhere as usual; I nearly broke my ankle on a rogue lip gloss. After discussing our plans for the day, we headed to get a taxi to the towering buildings that cut the skyline in two like a pair of scissors, The World Trade Centre which was home to our respective offices. Suddenly there was a weird rumbling sound; her office block shook violently and thick black smoke started to billow out of a gaping wound in the side of the building. In a split second her face was filled with horror. Several people screaming hysterically ‘A PLANE HAS HIT THE NORTH TOWER!!!'. I felt faint as sweat started pouring out of my body. I had to get her! My hands shook as I fumbled desperately in my pocket for my phone I finally managed to but my fingers couldn’t find the buttons, I somehow managed to call her. The phone rang for what seemed like an eternity; my knees gave way as she finally answered. My heart beating rapidly, I pulled myself up onto my feet and stumbled to the window. She was gone! Where the hell is she? She was there a second ago; from behind her desk she stood up and looked at me. She appeared ghostly, amongst the chaos of her office. I knew that she’d be shaking like a leaf, so fragile. I had to reassure her. How could I do that? After forever, her voice shook ‘James what's happening?
