As I look back at our country, I begin to realize something. The United States has always been in some type of conflict during its two hundred plus year history. However, the conflicts shaped our country as the United States eventually became the number one superpower in the world. Despite the difficulties back then, our great country was able to overcome anything. This gives us our hope for the future as we can look back on how we solved our country’s conflicts in the past. We would be able to learn from our victories and mistakes and learn many various lessons. If another challenging situation were to happen, the United States would be prepared for anything. We can look back to the times of the Korean War. The war was fought between the communist supported North Vietnamese army and the U.S. supported South Vietnamese army. As the war raged on, it became very unpopular with American citizens as we fought a war for someone else using our men and money. The day of 9/11 was a really dark day as terrorists from Al-Qaeda hijacked planes and crashed into the Twin Towers and the Department of Defense. Many lives were lost and it was a tragic day. However, the American people stayed strong and realized many things. The citizens of the United States learned that heroes are everywhere. The many brave and selfless acts of firefighters, flight attendants, and volunteers proved that Americans are generous with their courage and that heroes are all around us. Another thing Americans realized that we must not let terrorists win. If we hide and alter our lives because of fear, we will be helping the terrorists accomplish their goals. We must stay strong and live our normal lives. This contributes to our hope for the future as we know we can stay strong if another situation like 9/11
