Everyone knows where they were when they first found out. Every TV in America tuned in to see the plane crash into the tower in a fiery explosion. As the Twin Towers fell, fear rose in the hearts of millions of Americans. Emotions running high, they lashed out at the first target that came to mind. Unfortunately, they chose the religion of the terrorists and not the group.
Muslims across America found themselves under intense scrutiny and discrimination. Islam became the taboo religion and was often enough evidence to be jailed for treason. Muslim neighborhoods had cameras posted on every street corner and those suspected of being a muslim found themselves under constant surveillance everywhere they went. He prayed when he woke up and right before bed everyday. His household was strict but fair, at least in his eyes. He was a single father of two daughters, Lucy and Kat, who often incurred his wrath. It was quite well know by the community that Sharpe felt disappointed by their behavior. The tension of the Sharpes was a constant presence in Butler Heights and it would not be long before something broke.

“Lucy! At least try to keep up!”
“Kat, I didn’t even want to come in the first place. What makes you think I’m going to be in a hurry?” Kat turned and faced her sister. Lucy was only fourteen but she still had a commanding air about her. She was dressed way to nicely for the trek through the woods they were making but Kat kept this thought to herself instead of risking angering her younger sister. Kat on the other hand was seventeen, not so young and sweet, and wore a green plaid button up over a red t-shirt.
“I just really want you to meet Matt. He’s one of the nicest guys I have ever met and I want you to stop worrying about the company I keep,” said Kat with the most sincere tone she could muster.
“Kat, Matt is one of...them. Dad is going to kill us if he finds out we’re sneaking off to see a boy, let alone a muslim.”

The following day was not much different from normal, other than the neighborhood was alight with gossip about the events of that night. They all wanted to know who the girls were that were meeting with the muslim, who had been sent locked in the basement of the Smiths’. Some people suspected the Sharpe girls but more and more people were becoming convinced the oldest Albright was the one. When she stepped off her school bus the neighborhood watch was waiting. Kat and Lucy watched as the color drained from Mary’s face. She was escorted to the Smith’s house, neighborhood meetings and trials were held. Everyone was on their porches watching as she walked with her head down. Kat felt a twang of guilt and knew she had made a mistake. But she didn’t have the bravery to speak out for Mary. She found herself walking to the Smiths’even though she had no idea what she could do. She knocked on the door and was answered by Sam Smith. “You’re a little early for the trial, it starts at 6,” he said
