Classification Essay: Three Types of Horror Fanatics What an excellent day for an exorcism. An iconic line from one of the most iconic horror movies from the 20th century: most people have seen the movie The Exorcist or at least heard of it. It’s a classic and it can distinguish where people lie in the horror movie community. Through close consideration and personal knowledge horror fanatics can be broken down in the at least three types: the Old Schooler, Indie Filmers, and the Undergrounders. The Older Schoolers are the most common and easiest to spot. They believe only films prior to the 21st century is worth watching. These films include Jason, Michael Myers, and of course the Exorcist. The age of Old Schooler can range from 14 to 40+. The older generation should be given room, they rarely know no better than to criticize the newer generations work with their bitter tongue and harsh comments. But the younger ones and shown to be rather pretentious and snobby, believe no film made after the 20th century can be decent enough to meet their expectation. They are highly pretentious when it comes to their films, refusing to see any film made by a big Hollywood corporation. They are almost the exact opposite of the Older Schoolers. They will scour the web for hours for the perfect independent horror film, but nothing ever seems to satisfy their horror needs. Indie-Films could be broken down into many different categories as well but over all they crave originality and newness, nothing like anyone has seen before. Due to the lack of unmet expectations in the indie horror industry, most Indie-Films go on to be film majors themselves to try and make what the industry did not provide for
