The play Antigone should be used as a tool to help us better understand and function productively in our society. Antigone is a wise and courageous character, with a strong set of mind, and a model of Civil Disobedience. Antigone is a courageous character in this story, she stands for women as a whole just like sophocles intended her to be. In this time period women had a set way of living. They were the caretakers, the dinner makers and table setters. Women in todays world have proved that stereotype wrong. We work and go to school, we can wear dress pants instead of a Gown. Antigone knew her freedom was limited and she was treated very poorly and disrespected due to her gender, and was looked down at by her father. With all of this, she had the courage to step out of line and take action. Antigone overcame the set of strict guidelines to achieve the unachievable. Thanks to antigone we are reminded today that we need to stay headstrong and inspire others to follow in our footsteps. We can fight for our beliefs and set goals to accomplish what we want most. Just because i am a woman does not mean we are any less important. We can still take on the role of a caretaker and rule as a wise individual. Antigone has a strong set of mind. She was very concerned about her choice of burying her beloved brother to please the gods and her set of mind, but she kept to her decision and did what she needed to do. Antigone could be killed. She risked everything to do what was right for those she loved.In todays world, for whatever reason, we struggle to do what is right. We should be able to sacrifice our own safety over the concern of others.
