It is important you recognize the individuality of the person to help boost their confidence and self-esteem and make sure you aren't labeling them. If you were to label them you would forget their individuality and start thinking they can’t do something because of their disability.

1; 2 The level of care a person needs or the type of care they require varies from person-to-person. All assessments should be done with a person-centered approach this means it should be done with the individuals needs and wants at the centre of it all. They have to try and accept that changes are going to happen to them physically and that are out of their control. Disabilities such as Parkinson’s disease will affect their use of hands effectively as their muscles stiffen and along with the shaking/tremor makes it difficult to complete just normal tasks such as fastening their button cuffs. Gradually being unable to do things they have always been able to achieve can cause many emotional feelings such as frustration leading to anger at the inability to do things.

2.5 People believe that those born with a congenital disability are ok as they have always had it so therefore will not know the difference, this is not the case. Those born with a disability may ask the question “why me?” They will feel they have missed out and although a lot can be done to help... Those with congenital disabilities have always had the disability so know no difference and have become used to them - it’s normal to them. Those with progressive disabilities have to become used to being disabled and learn to adapt both physically and
